I’m the type the person that always likes to test new things, hence my decision to start this blog and unfortunately, I also tend to try new things when it comes to skin care. I say, unfortunately, because this tends to backfire on me when I try face creams that are not good for my skin. Luckily, I didn’t have bad reactions to these creams.
Urban Detox is a relatively new skin care line launched by Nivea at the beginning of last summer. When I heard the word detox and I saw the commercials with these green face creams, I wanted to try them out, especially because they have a very affordable price – around 4 euros each. I was a little reluctant with them because I tried various face creams from Nivea in the past and to be honest I didn’t like them. I like their body care products and their shampoos, but the face creams…not so much.

Nivea Urban Skin Defence day cream
This face cream contains hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and bio green tea extract. It also has SPF 20 in it. It comes in a plastic jar containing 50 ml. The cream has a very light texture, similar to the one of a gel-cream, which means it absorbs really fast into the skin, but it also feels a little sticky to me – here’s a word you will see me using for most products that I don’t particularly like.
It has a pale green color, which actually makes it fun to use because you feel like you’re putting something really good on your skin because green is always associated with healthy things. This is not a natural cream, nor does it contain many natural ingredients, so it’s not the case.
Although I do like the cream and I think it’s ok for the price point, I don’t think it’s suitable for the cold season when the skin needs creams that are a little more emollient. I also don’t think it provides enough hydration for dry skin. For the summer, when you don’t want a thick layer of face cream on your face or for an extremely oily skin I think that this might work just fine.
I also would add that I don’t particularly like the scent of it. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s the typical Nivea face cream scent if you’re familiar with other products of this brand.
Nivea Urban Skin Detox night cream
I bought this face cream at the same time as the day cream to use them at the same time. It contains the same main ingredients of the day cream – hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and bio green tea extract. It also has the same pale green color and a gel-like texture.
To be honest, I see no difference between the two creams, although the overall ingredients list is slightly different. I expected it to be just a little more thick and more nutrient because it’s a night cream and you don’t have to go over with foundation and other makeup products. So, because the feeling of it is practically the same – at least for me, I am a little disappointed because I just see it as being the same cream in different packaging.
The Urban Detox line also contains 3 masks, which I may try because I just love face masks, but so far I’m not impressed with the face creams and I didn’t see any special effects to the skin even though I use them for about 2 weeks now.
