I use this hair color for about a year now, so I thought it’s about time to dedicate it a proper review on my blog. I also noticed all my hair products are from L’Oreal and that is a coincidence because it was not my intention but they seem to have products that get along well with my hair needs.
I color my hair at home, on my own because I just do a simple dark brown color over my naturally dark brown hair so honestly I don’t feel like going to the hair salon just to pay a lot of money for something that I’m happy with how it turns out at home. Casting Creme Gloss is a semi-permanent hair color that doesn’t contain ammonia, which is important for me because I don’t want to damage my hair. I color my hair because I noticed last year that I already have some white hairs and it bothers me. i mean, I’m only in the beginning of my 30’s, I shouldn’t have to deal with this problem so soon but I’m afraid it’s hereditary.
I applied the hair color on my natural hair, just like instructed on the box. Being a semi-permanent hair color, I don’t think it works on hair that has already been colored or even chemically treated before.
The hair color contains several natural ingredients such as coconut oil, goji extract, hazelnut and honey. It does have a slight smell, but it isn’t that stingy ammonia smell that colors have that contain this ingredient.
My color is 323 Darkest Chocolate Brown and it does have some slight reddish undertones. It looks yummy I must say, like that rich dark brown chocolate color. It looks a little bit darker than I would like when I first use it, but after a couple of washes it has just the right color. It also doesn’t fade away in streaks so i don’t look awful when I don’t color my hair on time. On the box it says it lasts for up to 28 washes. I haven’t counted, but I wash my hair any other day and I can get away with the color for 6-8 weeks, depending on when I have the time to color my hair.

The box contains the following: the tube with the colorant cream, the bottle with the developer, the conditioner, a pair of gloves and instructions. I just mix the cream with the developer in the bottle, I shake it well and then I apply it in sections using the tip with dropper of the developer bottle. It says to leave it on for 20 minutes when you color your hair and for 15 minutes for the roots, but I always leave it on for 20 minutes because I want to refresh the color on my entire hair, not just to touch up the roots.
I don’t just wash my hair with water, I also use my regular shampoo because I just don’t feel like I can rinse it well otherwise. Then I apply the conditioner which smells like coconut starting with the medium length of my hair towards the ends (not on the roots because I have oily hair) and then I leave it on for about 2-3 minutes. The conditioner lasts me for 2-3 applications, so I use it like a hair mask every other week.
I’m very happy with the result. My hair is not damaged at all, I actually receive compliments for it all the time and I must admit I don’t do anything special to care for it. I don’t use hair care products for colored hair because they make it too oily, just my regular L’Oreal Fibralogy shampoo and conditioner.
So this is my favorite hair color that I use and i’m very happy with it. I feel like I can recommend it to anyone who has natural hair and wants to color it for the first time because it’s gentle on the hair. Yes, it’s semi-permanent, but I don’t mind coloring my hair more often, not just touching up on the roots like in the case of permanent colors because many of them are too harsh on the hair. At least, the drugstore ones. Maybe those who are more expensive or that are used only at hair salons are not as damaging, but for my budget and the results I want to achieve I am more than happy with this hair color “from the box”.
