Garnier Classic BB Cream review

garnier bb cream

I remember when BB creams started to be used in Europe and in the US that Garnier was one of the first drugstore brands that put one out on the market and everyone was crazy about it. What I did forget was the fact that I didn’t like this products so I bought it again on a whim because I wanted something with light coverage for a glowy sun-kissed skin. You know how it is.

Since my choices were rather limited in store, I bought the Classic BB Cream from Garnier, which promises to be an all-in-one perfecting care: evens, corrects, brightens, hydrates and contains SPF 15. However, whenever I read in the description of a product that it’s for “normal skin” or “for all skin types”, it usually doesn’t suit me.

Ingredients:

AQUA/WATER, ISONONYL ISONONANOATE, ISOHEXADECANE, GLYCERIN, ALCOHOL DENAT., PEG-20 METHYL GLUCOSE SESQUISTEARATE, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, METHYL GLUCOSE SESQUISTEARATE, CETYL PALMITATE, NYLON-12, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, STEARYL ALCOHOL, ARGILLA/MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, LITHIUM MAGNESIUM SODIUM SILICATE, DISODIUM EDTA, LINALOOL, BENZYL SALICYLATE, LIMONENE, CAFFEINE, ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE, BENZYL ALCOHOL, GERANIOL, CELULOSE ACETATE BUTYRATE, POLYPHOSPHORYLCHOLINE GLYCOL ACRYLATE, CITRAL, AMMONIUMPOLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE/AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE, POLYVINYL ALCOHOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM HYALURONATE [+/- MAY CONTAIN: CL77891/ TITANIUM DIOXIDE, CL77491, CL77492, CL77499/IRON OXIDES].

I mean….I’m not all about natural products because I like to try all kinds of stuff (and what I can get and fits into my budget), but this seems an awful long list of all kinds of things that I’m not sure are suitable to put on my face.

Leaving the ingredients list aside, the cream has a rather thick texture, similar to the one of a rich cream and it makes me shiny, but not in a good way. You know, there’s a “glow from within” and a “disco ball glow” and my glow was the later. I even had a kid I know from my neighborhood asking me if I’m too hot because my face looks sweaty. Now that’s not a look I’m going for, you know?

What I also didn’t like about this product (and I’ve used it for about a week before removing it from my daily routine) is the fact that it made me break out. I started getting whiteheads in my T-zone – all over my forehead and around the mouth area. I’m telling you, I was fine in the morning and I got home from work, I already had those pesky little whiteheads on the face.

Given all the reasons listed above, even if I’m the type of person who tries to see the good parts in all products and I try to finish up everything I buy so it doesn’t get wasted, this BB cream will definitely go to someone else or even in the trash. I just can’t use it, under no circumstances.

I can’t recommend it, but if there are people with no skin issues (that have a “normal skin”), I would say they could try it out on their own risk.
