I’m transitioning to cruelty free beauty products

Hi lovely readers! Long time no see. January was a very busy month for me because, asides from my job I have also enrolled at university to obtain a bachelor degree and this month I had to learn and prepare papers for the final exams of the first semester. So, it was difficult to find the time and get some updates on my blog. Also, I didn’t do any shopping and didn’t try out new products because I had to cut back on my spending due to some unfortunate events (no one’s sick, don’t worry).

However, I do feel I have something important to share with you. I decided to actively do something since I love animals so much (both pets and wild animals) and asides from donating as much as I can to several organizations I want to cut out any beauty products from my life that are made by brands that test on animals. I’m not a vegetarian yet, although I had several attempts, but I think every choice we make counts. I don’t buy leather and fur goods and I don’t own any of that sort of stuff and now I also don’t want to use products that I know are tested on animals and make them go through pointless and horrible things.

I know all the brands that I use don’t test on animals themselves, but by selling their products in China, they contribute to the perpetuation of this barbaric process. So, I don’t want to give them my money and support them any longer. This means parting with most drugstore brands that I liked over the years such as Dove, Nivea, Revlon, Rimmel, Yves Rocher, L’Oreal and Farmec (yes, they do sell their products in China as much as it pains me).

So, the rules I set out for myself are the following:

  1. I will continue to use brands whose parent companies are not cruelty free. I hope that maybe some of these parent companies see that their cruelty free products are doing better and they finally decide to stop selling in places where animal testing is still made.
  2. I will continue to use what I already have because I see no point in wasting products that I already bought. I have mainly some bath and body care stuff and shampoo that I need to finish up. I don’t have that many makeup products, but I will decide later on if I will continue to use some of them or not. Honestly, it takes a while to finish up a bronzer or a blush so I will decide if I will continue to use products like that, but I will finish up my foundation and concealer since I already have only one of each and it won’t take long to use them up.
  3. If I get a non cruelty free product as a gift from someone or in a beauty box (I subscribed for the very first time to a beauty box, but more on that later) I will use it if I don’t have someone in my friends and family circle to give it away to.
  4. Brands that are in the “grey area” meaning they’re not listed as cruelty free in most places but they state they are cruelty free and they don’t sell their products in China I will continue to use and give them my vote of confidence unless I find information that says otherwise ( like for example products sold in DM store only – Balea, Alverde or essence cosmetics).

So, these are my rules when it comes to cruelty free products, so if you’re not interested in this aspect or you don’t agree with me, I’m afraid the content you will find on my blog will not be of great value to you.

I will also try and make the transition to cruelty free household products as well, although this one might be a little tricky since there aren’t many affordable options available to me that are not from brands that test on animals. I will do my best.

Thank you for taking the time to read through all of this and see you soon!
