I usually don’t review many body lotions because honestly they’re all the same to me and this one was only a sample size (30 ml) that I had, but I was impressed enough with it to decide to write a few words about my experience with the product.
Ameliorate is an UK dermatological skincare brand focused on creating products meant to help with Keratosis Pilaris ( a skin condition).
Packaging:
Usually this body lotion is available in a plastic bottle with a pump (the large 500 ml size) and a tube (the 200 ml size). My sample size also came in a tube. The packaging is nothing special, it’s predominantly white and blue and it’s convenient enough.
Texture:
The lotion has a light texture and absorbs fast into the skin. It’s white and it also has a light scent. Some people don’t like it, but it doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t linger on the skin. It doesn’t feel sticky at all so I can use it even in the morning and I can get dressed quickly after.
Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Ammonium Lactate*, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance (Parfum), Potassium Sorbate, Pentylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, Disodium EDTA, Lactic Acid, Serine, Sodium Lactate, Sorbitol, Urea, Linalool, Citronellol, Sodium Chloride, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Limonene, Coumarin, Juniperus Mexicana (Cedarwood) Oil, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Allantoin, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Oil, Geraniol. *From Lactic Acid.
- Alpha Hydroxy Therapy with optimum levels of Lactic Acid
- LaH6 Skin Hydration Complex – a unique combination of active moisturising ingredients combine to create a powerful formula, clinically proven to moisturise for 24 hours
- Sweet Almond Oil – A natural oil produced from almond kernels that protects the skin, keeping it soft and smooth
Price and accessibility:
This is a more expensive body lotion (the 200 ml size retails for 22.50 UK pounds and the large 500 ml bottle for 56 UK pounds) but I’d say that it’s one of the few products that actually is worth to pay the extra price tag. Unfortunately, I didn’t come across Ameliorate products in Romanian stores and online shops and I don’t feel like going out of my way to order it from another country and pay for the shipping.
My overall opinion:
I don’t know how this lotion works for Keratosis Pilaris and the prevention of ingrown hairs (which is one of its selling points) because I didn’t have enough product to use it more. However, i did try this also on my face (I was curious, what can I say) and it actually felt very nice. What I like the most about it asides from the fact that it isn’t sticky, is the moisturizing effect. I really have problems with the skin on my elbows because it’s always extremely dry and this lotion is the only product that worked (asides from those thick ointments that I can apply only at night). Also, the moisturizing effect is really lasting. Most body lotions make the skin feel soft, but after a couple of hours it’s like I didn’t applied anything at all. So, for me, I would purchase this product just because it’s so moisturizing and convenient to use, even if it doesn’t help with ingrown hairs or with other skin problems. It’s also a cruelty free brand, something that I always support.
