Saling Naturprodukte Sheep Milk Soap with Coconut/Cream review

All-focus

I never thought I would see the day when I will be using a natural soap with sheep milk in it, but here we are. I also found this little guy in the MioBio shop, so I got it because it was on sale and because it sounded interesting.

Saling Naturprodukte are cosmetic products made in Germany (they also have other sheep by-products as well, especially items made out of wool). There’s a sheep farm that is run by a family, so it’s a small business that produces these cute soaps. While I appreciate the fact that they make natural and certified organic products, I couldn’t find any information about the way they’re handling the sheep during the process. I mean…I went (almost) cruelty free for a reason, because I don’t want any animals to get hurt just to make or to test some cosmetics. Hopefully, that’s not the case with this brand.

Packaging:

Even the packaging is very eco-friendly. The soap comes only wrapped in some thick paper where there’s all the ingredients and other information regarding the product and then it’s also wrapped in a brown paper bag. I actually like this old-school pharmacy/drugstore packaging and I’m glad they don’t use any plastic or other material that is difficult to recycle. The soap weighs 100 grams (the normal size for most soaps).

Texture:

It’s a simple white soap with the brand’s logo embossed on the top part. It doesn’t have any scent, or at least not that I can tell. It doesn’t smell like sheep, but it also doesn’t smell like coconut or cream.

Ingredients:

Sodium Palmate (palm oil), Sodium Cocoate (coconut oil), Aqua (water), Glycerin, Sheep Milk Powder, Lanolin Cera, Parfum*, Cocos Nucifera Fruit (coconut), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Sodium Chloride (salt), D-Limonene. *ulei esential natural

I also found some additional information about the ingredients: “Natural certified organic sheep’s milk soap. Fats and oils from controlled organic crops. Perfume made from 100% essential oils. Without preservatives. No cow’s milk. ”

Price and accessibility:

I got this soap from an online store, but I didn’t see this brand anywhere else in Romania. Usually, it’s 18 lei (around 4 euros), and I got it on sale for 14 lei (around 3 euros). I had cheaper natural soaps, but there are also more expensive natural soaps around, so this one is somewhere in the middle.

My overall opinion:

I’m a little disappointed because I can’t smell the coconut scent, that being the reason why I chose this product variant. It does feel creamier than your typical basic soaps, but I used natural soaps that felt more moisturizing on the skin. We (my husband and I) use it to wash our hands. It’s recommended for dry and sensitive skin, but honestly I wouldn’t have the patience to use it in the shower because it takes some time to lather it up.

Since a soap is a soap, I can’t say I regret this purchase but it didn’t spark my interest to try more soaps from the Saling brand. Also, while I like the idea of supporting small businesses, I don’t know anything about how they treat their farm animals, all the information I could find is focused on the benefits of the products.

To make a long story short, this soap is nice but it isn’t anything special and I’m sure I can find some other better natural soaps in the same price category.
