Elemis is a British skin wellness brand that was created more than 30 years ago. Their products are manufactured in England. The brand was founded in 1989 by 4 women who wanted to create a skin care brand that combines nature with latest technology innovations. The Pro-Collagen Marine Cream was first launched in 2003 and it became a staple product in their portfolio. Although they have banned many potentially harmful ingredients from their formulas and they don’t test on animals, Elemis is sold in China so it’s not cruelty free.
Packaging:
The full size product (50 ml or 100 ml) comes in a jar, but the sample size comes in a plastic tube (the sample size is sold also on their website). The design is cute, with the pale blue color.
Texture:
The cream is white and it has a consistency common to most face creams, not too rich and not too thin. It also has a light scent, but I find it to be pleasant and I don’t think you can smell it after the cream absorbs into the skin (which happens quite quickly). I like that despite being an anti-aging cream it’s not too rich and it can be used for combination skin as well without looking shiny.
Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Dimethicone, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Padina Pavonica Thallus Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Porphyridium Cruentum Extract, Acacia Decurrens (Mimosa) Flower Extract, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol, Polyacrylate-13, Stearic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Coco-Caprylate, Cetyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Polyisobutene, Fragrance (Parfum), Citric Acid, Chlorphenesin, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Disodium EDTA, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Isostearate, Linalool, Citronellol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Geraniol, Limonene.
The key ingredients in this face cream Padina Pavonica, a brown algae found on the Mediterranean coast that is a good hydrating ingredient, mimosa (anti-inflammatory, toning and astringent) and rose (nurturing and calming). Most likely because of the flower extracts, the cream has a light flower scent. I also noticed the shea butter, carrot root extract and the ginkgo biloba leaf extract in the formula.
Price and accessibility:
Elemis products are very expensive. A 50 ml jar of this cream is sold for 110 euros, while the sample size is sold for 30 euros. I didn’t see their products here in store, but they can be purchased online. For me, it’s a hard pass mainly because of the price point. I don’t have 100 euros to spend monthly on a face cream.
My overall opinion:
Like I said in the beginning, I won’t lie, the skin does look great after using this face cream. It feels so smooth and it has a filling effect on the fine lines as I noticed in the eye area. It also gives that natural glow look without making the skin look shiny or oily and I noticed it looks and feels good on all areas. I liked it very much, but it’s just too expensive and it’s also not a cruelty free product. I mean, I wouldn’t say no if I got it as a gift or something, but it’s not something I would go out of my way to buy it.
