Going back to an old love: Chloe EDP review

If you don’t know by now, this perfume was part of my perfume collection way back in 2018 when I had only a mini size of it (it was actually my second bottle). Now, I still remembered how much I liked it and I want to add some more high end perfumes in my collection because perfumes are so important for me. I wear perfume every day and I want to wear something that gives me more confidence, that makes me feel like I look good, I smell good, so I’m ready to tackle the day.

Chloe was the first perfume launched by the brand Chloe back in 2008, so I know my review is not relevant by now, but I like to share the things that I like on this blog and this perfume is one of those things. The perfume was created by Amandine Clerc-Marie and Michel Almairac and it’s a predominantly floral scent with some fruity notes, which means it’s exactly right up my alley.

Packaging:

The perfume comes in a fancy cardboard box (I was a little surprised by the size of it) and in a bottle that reminds me of Roman ancient constructions which is a little bit odd because the scent itself is so classic French chic as it could be. I do have a pet peeve with the packaging because it has that little thing tied to it which I think it’s supposed to be a little bow or something, but the material is used is that elastic type of thing that you can usually see in basic hair scrunchies. Considering that it’s a more expensive perfume at least they could have done a satin or something more luxurious. I kept it on the bottle for the pictures, to show you how it looks in the box, but I will remove it and throw it away.

Fragrance notes:

Top notes: peony, freesia and litchi

Middle notes: rose, lily of the valley and magnolia

Base notes: amber and Virginia cedar

Ingredients:

Alcohol Denat., Fragrance, Water, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzophenone-3, Benzyl Salicylate, Bht, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Citronellol, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Hydroxycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Limonene, Linalool, Fd&C Red No. 4 (Ci 14700), Fd&C Yellow No.5 (Ci 19140).

Price and accessibility:

Being an older fragrance, it was difficult to find in stores here, which I don’t get because they still make it and it’s a rather popular perfume. I don’t get why stores tend to push forward only new perfumes. I finally bought a 50 ml bottle from an online shop and I got it at a reasonable price – 200 lei (a little more than 40 euros). So it’s not like it’s that expensive, but it was the price of a cosmetics outlet (don’t worry I checked and the perfume is not fake and it was made only in August of this year), so Chloe perfumes are usually more expensive (like 60-70 euros). It’s not exactly a luxury perfume but it’s also not like a mass market perfume. For me, it was an expensive perfume, but it’s worth it because I can use it for a long time. I still have a bottle of YSL’s Black Opium from two years ago and it smells the same.

My overall opinion:

For me, Chloe is a signature scent. As I get older, I like my perfumes to be classic, floral, delicate, something that I can wear on daily basis and on every occasion. It also has a great lasting power on my skin because I can still feel it in the evening on me without reapplying throughout the day. That’s one of the things I like, to smell y own perfume which doesn’t happen often with cheap perfumes, no matter how nice they smell.

It’s not to sweet, so I don’t think it’s too heavy or too bothersome for those who don’t like strong perfumes, it’s a classic scent (some say it’s in the “mommy perfumes” category, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I’m 34, I have an office job, I have simple tastes and I like floral scents because they make me feel feminine, delicate and sensual. Chloe hits just the right spots for me and it’s definitely up there in my top favorite perfumes list.

If you think that’s something that you would like, go ahead and get your hands on a sample. I think it’s a unique perfume that deserves more credit than it gets for its beautiful floral mix.
