By Terry Baume de Rose Liquid Lip Balm review

I always think that French cosmetics, regardless if they’re skin care ones or makeup are having that extra oomph factor because they seem to be simple and sophisticate at the same time. Of course, I’ve seen By Terry products in stores and I know about the brand, but since they’re a high end brand it’s not something I would grab. So I was extremely happy to receive the travel size of their famous lip balm in the Lookfantastic beauty box.

Terry de Gunzburg is a well-known makeup artist in France who worked with Yves Saint Laurent as a makeup designer and created the famous Touche Eclat in 1992. She started to work on her first line of products and the Baume de Rose was actually a happy accident because it containes double the amount of rose butter that it was initially supposed to.

Packaging:

The full size comes in a jar, but the travel size (the flaconette) comes in a tube, like a lip gloss. It contains 2.3 grams, which I found out on their website because it doesn’t say on the tube and I was confused at first of the amount of product in there. The packaging is very slick and simple: a clear transparent plastic tube with a silver cap.

Texture:

It’s a white lip balm that doesn’t have any color, but I think it gives a very vague pink shade on the lips. The formula feels very comfortable on the lips and it’s non-sticky, which is a great plus. I can’t remember any other lip balm or lip gloss that feels so nice on the lips without being tacky or sticky. It also has a strong rose scent, but that goes away after a while.

Ingredients:

Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Synthetic Wax, Diisostearyl Malate, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Polyethylene, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Rosa Centifolia Flower Cera / Rosa Centifolia Flower Wax, Rosa Damascena Flower Cera / Rosa Damascena Flower Wax, Parfum / Fragrance, C20-40 Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Titanium Dioxide [Nano], Tocopherol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Propylene Carbonate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Geraniol, Trihydroxypalmitamidohydroxypropyl Myristyl Ether, Citronellol, Alumina, Aluminum Stearate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Mica, Ci 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, Linalool, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Benzyl Benzoate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Citral, Ci 75470 / Carmine, Eugenol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol, Citric Acid. (T0539B1)

As most ingredients list seem so confusing, I can tell you there’s rose blossom essential wax, shea butter, vitamin E, ceramides and hyaluronic acid in it.

Price and accessibility:

By Terry products are available in Romania in Douglas stores but also in various other online shops as well. Like I said, the products are on the high end side. This lip balm, for example, in the travel size, is sold for 85 lei on their official website. Of course, they may be deals here and there and the possibility to find them at a reduced price, but overall it’s much. I don’t think I would pay 17-18 euros for it to be honest. But I guess it all depends on personal preference and on each person’s budget.

My overall opinion:

This was another case of a high end product that I would prefer not to like and consider the money spent on it as foolish but it’s not the case. It’s a wonderful lip balm, it makes the lips look juicy and plump and it feels comfortable on the lips. Yes, the rose scent can be an overkill, but I personally like because I like everything that is rose scented.

I even tried this while wearing a face mask since I can’t use almost any products on my lips these days, and it worked. I applied usually in the morning and then I wait 10-15 minutes while I get ready for work to allow it to settle on the lips and then I put my face mask on and it doesn’t get smeared with lip balm on it.

The formula is interesting, it’s not as waxy as most lip balms and it’s more nourishing than just your regular lip gloss, so I love it. I’m very happy that I was able to try it out and I do consider having just one really good lip balm in my collection even if it’s a more expensive one.
