This little guy came in my January Lookfantastic beauty box and it was just a travel size (7 ml), so now I’m about to finish it up, so it’s time to share a few thoughts I have on the product. I didn’t know the brand Verso, but after a little research I found out that it’s an European brand (from Sweden) that was founded by Lars Fredriksson and their products contain Retinol 8, a Vitamin A complex developed by Verso that is supposed to be eight times as effective as traditional retinol but half as irritative.
Verso is a vegan and cruelty free brand, which is great, but it’s also an expensive skin care brand so there’s that.
Packaging:
The packaging is very clean and simple, white and black, The travel size I have of this eye cream doesn’t come in the standard white tube but in a silver aluminum tube. I don’t mind, after all a tube is just a tube.
Texture:
The eye cream feels very thick and rich, but not in a bad way. You don’t need much product and you can spread it out easily as you have the time to massage it in the under eye area. It doesn’t have any smell, but that doesn’t surprise me, considering that it’s an eye cream.
Ingredients:
Aqua, C15-19 Alkane, Butyrosperum Parkii Butter, Hydrolyzed Yeast Extract, Pullulan, Avena Sativa Kernel Oil, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Methylpropanediol, Lecithin, Lactobacillus Ferment, Avena Sativa Kernel Extract, Saccharide Isomerate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Polyglucuronic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol
The key ingredients listed on the brand’s website are ceramides (love that), oat lipids and oils (“from the Nordic countries”) and yeast extract.
The first ingredients on the list are water, C15-19 Alkane ( a mixture of alkanes, that works as a solvent that can potentially be toxic in high concentrations), shea butter (which can be pore-clogging for some people), hydrolyzed yeast extract (optimizes the skin’s hyaluronic acid level, supports elastin synthesis to help the skin better withstand daily stresses and makes active ingredients easier to absorb) and pullulan (a glucan gum produced by black yeast that contains polysaccharides, which makes it a good water-binding agent, thickening agent, and antioxidant).
There is also oat kernel oil, lecithin and oat extract in there. Overall, I wouldn’t mind the ingredient list but I’m concerned about a solvent like that alkanes mixture being so high on the ingredients list.
Price and accessibility:
I didn’t see Verso products in any stores or online shops here in Romania, so I couldn’t buy them even if I wanted to. The prices are also high. The full size of this eye cream (20 ml) retails for 60 euros in the brand’s online shop, so it’s definitely quite expensive. Of course, you don’t need much product and an entire tube can last for a long time, but still, it has a high price mark.
My overall opinion:
While I do enjoy using the eye cream and I can see that it makes my under eye area smoother and hydrated, it’s not the best eye cream I have ever used and that’s why I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it. Also, one of the ingredients in the formula concerns me because I don’t know much about it but I don’t like seeing a solvent as the second ingredient after water. So overall, no, I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending this eye cream, but it was nice that i got to try it and also learn about an European skin care brand that I wasn’t aware it even existed.
