Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil review

Christophe Robin is a brand that I’ve heard about, but I never got to try one of their products. Now, I got a mini size of this mask in my Lookfantastic box and it lasted me for 5 uses, enough to decide that it was worth it to write a few words about it.

Christophe Robin was launched in 1999 in Paris, is hair salons. The first products were a hair oil and a hair mask, both designed to treat chemically damaged hair. The products are generally targeted towards colored hair and hair coloring in general.

This particular mask is one of the staple products of the brand and it was launched in 2012, as an alternative to Argan oil. The prickly pear seed oil is an ingredient that also has its roots in the Middle East and it restores the beauty of dry, damaged hair.

Christophe Robin is a cruelty free band.

Packaging:

The mask comes in a black plastic jar and the mini size has the same type of packaging. I like jars for hair masks because it’s very easy for me just grab as much product as I want. I like to be very generous with the amount of product I apply on my hair.

Texture:

The mask feels and looks just like any regular hair mask with thick consistency. It was a very strong scent, though. I like the scent but it may be a problem for those who are sensitive to this kind of stuff.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Cetrimonium Chloride, Inula Crithmoide Leaf/Flower Extract, Opuntia Ficus Indica Seed Oil, Behenyl/Stearyl Aminopropanediol Esters, Opuntia Ficus Indica Fruit Extract, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Disodium Edta, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Hydroxycitronellal, Coumarin, Limonene, Caramel, Tocopherol, Linalool, Geraniol

The first ingredients on the list are not all that appealing (water, cetearyl alcohol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetyl alcohol) and behentrimonium chloride – a waxy solid derived from the seeds of Brassica rapa olifera, also called canola or rapeseed, it conditions, detangles, fights static, softens, and helps strengthen hair, but there is also golden samphire leaf and flower extract and opuntia ficus indica fruit extract.

Overall, I can’t say that I don’t like the formula because it has plenty of interesting plant-based ingredients.

Price and accessibility:

Christophe Robin is available at Sephora and in several other online shops. The products are rather expensive, considering that you go through hair products quite fast (at least that’s my case). The full size of this hair mask (250 ml) retails for 53 euros on the brand’s website.

My overall opinion:

I’m not gonna lie, the hair mask feels luxurious on the hair and the experience of applying it doubles as a pampering session. Also, the hair looks shiny and smooth after using it. I like the fact that it’s also a cruelty free brand and I may be biased, but I’m a sucker for European brands, especially for French one. That’s just my personal preference. Other than that, just the higher price would be something that would stop me from using it, but except for that, there’s nothing that I can find wrong with it and it’s a good hair mask even for oily hair. Mine is oily but it’s also colored so it gets drier on the ends and a product like this is great.
