I got this primer sometime last year in my Lookfantastic box but only now I got to use it up. I’m not big on face primers, but I figured that I need all the help that I can get for sweat proof makeup during summer, so I used this primer almost daily and you know what? It was halfway decent.
Packaging:
The primer comes in a black plastic tube that contains 20 ml. It has the standard black packaging like all Sleek products, which is nice and simple for a drugstore brand.
Texture:
This is a white primer with a very thick texture that is common for all silicone-based primers. A little does go a long way, so it takes some time to use it up.
Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Cyclopentasiloxane, HDI/ Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Butylene Glycol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Silica, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate, Escin, Glycerin, Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hydrolyzed Yeast Protein, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Sodium Citrate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate.
The first ingredients are water, Cyclopentasiloxane (a type of silicone), HDI/ Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer ( a polymer that provides excellent slip, fluidity and overall skin feel and gives soft focus and wrinkle correction to cosmetic products. It also has strong de-tackifying and anti-caking properties), Butylene Glycol and Cyclohexasiloxane (a light-feeling, volatile silicone that gives skin a unique, silky and non-greasy feel).
There is also Butcher’s broom root extract in there, Centella Asiatica extract and Pot marigold extract, which are all great herbal extracts for the skin.
Price and accessibility:
Sleek products are available in Marionnaud stores and in several online shops, but this particular primer is not available in the brand’s official website anymore so maybe they decided to stop making it. I don’t know for sure. I did find it in Romanian online shops for 49 lei, which is about 10 euros, a very affordable price.
My overall opinion:
The primer does have a blurring effect because it diminishes the appearance of large pores and it makes the skin feel very soft and silky. It has a mattifying effect, as far as I could tell in the oily regions of my face (especially the forehead and the chin) but it doesn’t make the skin look dry at all. I would purchase this primer to use it again because of the way it makes my skin feel. The makeup was not 100% transfer proof with this primer as I got some tinted moisturizer on my face mask, but not nearly as much as I would have expected considering how much I’m sweating when it’s hot outside.
For a drugstore primer, I would definitely recommend it. It’s not a miracle worker, but it’s a very nice product for oily skin, especially during summer. Although it’s only a 20 ml tube instead of the usual 30 ml, it’s enough for me because I don’t usually spread it all over the face, just in the areas that are more oily or where I have large pores.
