I’m writing this review based on my husband’s experience with this body lotion because he is the one who is using it, but I think it’s worth noting it because my husband deals with psoriasis and he has a pretty bad form because he has eczemas practically all over his body.
Lactovit is a Spanish brand founded in 1999 that makes all kinds of body care products for very dry skin (shower gels and body creams mostly). They all contain lactic acid extracted from milk, so protein calcium which is very good for dry skin. We decided to try it out because my husband uses a shampoo for psoriasis that contains urea, so we figured it should be good for the skin as well.
Urea is known as a keratolytic agent. This means it breaks down the protein keratin in the outer layer of your skin. This action can help reduce dead skin buildup and get rid of flaking or scaling skin. The exfoliating actions are strongest in creams containing more than 10 percent urea. Urea used in skin care products is not made from urine, despite what the name may suggest, so don’t worry about that.
Packaging:
The body lotion comes in a plastic bottle with a pump that contains 400 ml. I like bottles with pumps the most because they are very efficient to take as much product as you want without having to stick your fingers in a jar.
Texture:
Lactovit is a thick white cream that has a beautiful rose scent that is not too sweet or sickening. It absorbs fast into the skin and it doesn’t feel greasy or sticky.
Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Glycerine, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Palmitate, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, PEG-100 Stearate, Dimethicone, Urea, Sodium Lactate, Lecithin, Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Rosa Moschata Seed Oil, Zea Mays Oil, Calcium Pantotenate, Inositol, Retinol, Biotin, PEG-20 Castor Oil, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Steatic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Carbomer, Disodium Edta, Triethanolamine, Alcohol Denat., Propanediol, Tocopherol, Helianthus Anuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum (Fragrance), Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citral, Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Glycine, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Citrate.
The key ingredients in the formula are tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate (antioxidants), retinol (a cell-communicating ingredient), glycerin, urea and glycine (skin-identical ingredients).
Other very good ingredients are sodium lactate (moisturizer and humectant), lecithin (emollient) and sunflower seed oil (also an emollient). It also contains rose flower oil, which is what gives it the nice scent, inositol and biotin. There are also many fragrance ingredients in it, which may cause a problem for people with sensitive skin, but my husband doesn’t have a problem with it.
Price and accessibility:
Considering the size, this is a very affordable body lotion. I got it for around 5 euros from my local DM store, but it’s also available in some pharmacies, in some supermarkets in and in various online shops. the price those differ depending on the store because I saw the exact same product for double the price, so I have to be careful where I buy it from.
My overall opinion:
Now, this is a great body lotion for very dry skin, but like I said, people with sensitive skin should be careful because it contains fragrance and in considerable quantities. It’s not a cure for psoriasis or a treatment, don’t get me wrong, but it helps a lot with the itching because it soothes the skin and it also helps with very rough skin patches (at least in my husband’s case).
I think that being a very affordable product it’s great for those who really have to use it often and all over the body. We like it because it helps improve the appearance of rough skin, it soothes the itching caused by psoriasis and it absorbs fast into the skin so the clothes don’t get smudged with lotion after applying it. A big thumbs up from me!
