Techir Natural Lavender and Mud Hand Soap review

Today I’m glad to talk about a Romanian brand that is using ingredients in their products that are sourced from a very beauty place, Lake Techirghiol. The water and the mud from lake Techirghiol have been studied for more than 200 years now for their therapeutically importance. Situated on the shore of the Black Sea, Techirghiol Lake is the largest salt water lake in Romania and many people go there for mud treatments for different skin issues and other health issues as well.

The brand Techir was launched in 2014, by Oana Stan, a local woman form the town of Techirghiol who was always interested in creating products based on the salt water and the mud extracted from Techirghiol Lake.

I found this soap in a Lidl store, where there were only two Techir soaps available and I bought it for the cute design, but now I also like the product itself. It’s a hand soap, which is great these days where washing the hands often is very important. We like to use solid hand soaps for some reason, mostly soaps that are also hydrating and don’t make the skin feel dry, especially since we also have to use all kinds of hand sanitizers all the time.

Packaging:

The soap comes in a little bag tied with a ribbon, which is a very simple packaging, but also elegant, I think. There is also a little flyer attached to it that contains all the information you need to know about the soap. It has a very cute embossing on it, a golden butterfly, but it’s just an overspray because it washed away after the first use. The soap weighs around 130 grams (it’s handmade, so the weight may differ a little bit depending on how the piece was cut).

Texture:

The soap has a very creamy texture and a strong lavender scent. It creates a purple foam because of the coloring, which is kind of cool. It feels very nice on the skin.

Ingredients:

LACUS AQUA , COCONUT BUTTER, OLEA EUROPAEA OIL,  HELIANTHUS ANNUS SEED OIL, RICINUS COMMUNIS SEED OIL, THEOBROMA CACAO SEED BUTTER, PRUNUS AMYGDLUS DULCIS OIL, SAPROPELIC MUD, MANGANESE VIOLET (CI 77742), LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA OIL

The ingredients are very simple, salt water from Lake Techirghiol coconut butter, olive oil, sunflower oil, flax seed oil, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, mud powder from LakeTechirghiol, lavender essential oil and manganese violet (which gives the strong purple color).

Price and accessibility:

I found this soap in a supermarket but they don’t have Techir products there all the time. Techir products can be purchased from the brand’s own website ( I don’t think they ship abroad) and in other online shops (usually those that sell natural cosmetics). The soap is sold for around 3 euros on the brand’s website, but I got it for half the price at the supermarket, so it was even more affordable.

Considering that it’s a natural soap that is also handmade and I can also support a Romanian brand, I think it has a decent price.

My overall opinion:

I’m not the biggest fan of lavender scent, I think you either hate it or love it, but I do think the soap has a very nice formula because it feels creamy and it leathers up easily. I really do enjoy using it and my husband as well, so I’m curious to try more of the Techir products.

It doesn’t contain ingredients of animal origin or synthetic perfumes and I also think it’s cruelty free even though it doesn’t say on the flyer but I know we don’t test cosmetics on animals in Romania because we follow the EU legislation in this industry.

In other words, I love the soap, I would just like to try a different fragrance.
