I was ready to scratch essence skin care from my list after the fail with the pineapple serum and the hydrating mist that I tried from them and I didn’t like but when they brought out this coffee themed collection in November (if I’m not mistaken) , I just had to grab something as I’m a big coffee lover. The products were sold out fast, so the only thing that I was able to get was the undereye treatment (which is actually a face cream) and I had to give it a try since I had it. This is supposed to be the variation I guess 01 Expresso Yourself! but I don’t know why they numbered it because there is no other eye treatment in the collection.
Packaging:
The eye cream comes in a plastic tube that has a very cute design with brown and gold and some coffee beans on it. I always like the design of essence product, I think they’re always making it cute without overdoing it. The tube contains 10 ml which is not exactly common for eye creams that usually have 15 ml but I noticed that essence does this – they have very affordable products but the quantities are most of the time a little lower than usually. For instance, if face creams contain 30 ml, their face creams or primers contain 20 ml or 25 ml. It’s not a big deal, I just noticed it.
Texture:
The eye cream feels nice and thick but it does absorb fast into the skin and it’s not to oily. I didn’t sense any smell to it, which is good because you don’t want your eye creams to be fragranced.
Ingredients:
AQUA (WATER), PROPANEDIOL, GLYCERIN, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CAFFEINE, TAPIOCA STARCH, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, HYDROLYZED CAESALPINIA SPINOSA GUM, CAESALPINIA SPINOSA GUM, SODIUM HYALURONATE, JANIA RUBENS EXTRACT, ALLANTOIN, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN ISOSTEARATE, SODIUM PHYTATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, SODIUM CARRAGEENAN, LACTIC ACID, PHENOXYETHANOL, POTASSIUM SORBATE.
The eye cream actually contains caffeine which is great to depuff the eyes, but I also see some other nice ingredients in here like glycerin, shea butter, lactic acid, sodium hyaluronate and red seaweed extract. I’m actually surprised about finding ingredients like this in such an affordable eye cream. The formula is vegan.
Price and accessibility:
essence products are available in DM stores and in various online shops. I got mine from the Notino website for around 3.5 euros, which is a bargain.
My overall opinion:
I really enjoy this eye cream because it hydrates the undereye area and it helps a little with the depuffing in the morning. Too bad it’s just a limited edition product, but it definitely made me be more open to trying more essence skin care products because not all of them are bad. Like in most brands, there is some good stuff and some bad stuff, but this eye cream is on the good side!
