I’m the type of person that doesn’t always stay faithful to a hair color because I think that I should always look for better and better options. I always choose a cool brown color because I don’t like the red undertones in warm brown colors and I always want something that covers well the few grey hairs I have and that is long-lasting so I don’t have to color my hair every month, just every other month. I used L’Oreal hair colors for a long time but the no ammonia variants were just semi-permanent hair dyes (which is something that doesn’t say on the box, I found out from their website), then I switched to Wella, a professional hair dye but it was a little bit difficult to find and I always had to buy the activator separately, plus some gloves because I always make a mess, so it was a hassle. Now, this is the second time that I used the Gliss hair dye, a recommendation from a friend, and I liked it so for now it will be my current favorite hair dye.
Packaging:

The box contains the color cream (60 ml tube), the activator (60 ml), an after treatment mask and a pair of disposable gloves. Like you can tell from the title, the hair color that I use is 5-1 Cool Brown, a color that is very similar to my natural hair color, so it doesn’t look so bad when my roots start to show.
Texture:
Like most hair dyes, this has the consistency of a cream and it’s very easy to apply. I just use a brush and my hands to spread the hair dyes as needed.
Ingredients:
I couldn’t find an ingredients list for this hair dye, but the entire selling point for it is that it contains hyaluronic acid, because of its hydrating properties for while and after coloring.
Price and accessibility:
The Gliss hair dye is available in several online shops and DM stores (that’s where I get mine from) and it costs around 5 euros, which is a very good price for a quality hair dye (even it it’s not a “professional” one.
My overall opinion:
Having played around with a professional hair dye, I can say that drugstore box hair dyes can be just as good, hands down. I don’t know about blondes or other more difficult to obtain hair colors, but for something basic like a brown on brown hair coloring, a box hair dye is just as good.
I don’t mind the ammonia, even if the smell is strong while applying the hair dye, because my hair dresser told me that, from her experience, no ammonia hair dyes are not as long-lasting, so if you don’t want to dye your hair each month, ammonia hair dyes are still the best way to go. Plus, now they all contain all kind of ingredients that are meant to prevent hair damage and with all the hair care products that we have on hand, it’s not a problem anymore.
I like the coverage of this hair dye, it really does a great job on the few grey hairs that I have and I dyed my hair after two months just because my roots were really showing, but the color didn’t fade away that much.
I also like the way my hair looks shiny and healthy and it doesn’t feel dry or frizzy ( I just use shampoo and conditioner each time I wash my hair) and that’s all that I need so my hair looks nice.
So, for the price and for the results, I would recommend the Gliss Care & Moisture hair dye, at least for basic hair colors or for hair that is not difficult to manage.
