Kerastase Bain Divalent Balancing Shampoo review

I tried so many shampoos over the last months and I liked most of them at first, but I also wanted to try silicone-free shampoos and all kinds of shampoos free of all stuff in an attempt to obtain healthy hair, that I made it worse. My hair would get oily within a day. So, I tried something else, an expensive shampoo and I read so many good things about Kerastase that I had to try it.

Packaging:

The shampoo is available in a plastic bottle with a rather annoying cap. The bottle is green because this is a range for oily hair. There are different sizes available but I have the middle one, the 250 ml bottle. For an expensive shampoo, the packaging is rather dull.

Texture:

It looks like a creamy shampoo, it doesn’t have a thick gel-like texture, but it’s also not liquid. It’s white, scented cream. It lathers nicely, so I don’t have to use a large quantity.

Ingredients:

Aqua / Water/ Eau • Sodium Laureth Sulfate • Tea-Lauryl Sulfate • Cocamide Mipa • Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate • Glycol Distearate • Hexylene Glycol • Sodium Chloride • Citric Acid • Sodium Benzoate • Sodium Hydroxide • Capryloyl Glycine • Polyquaternium-11 • Salicylic Acid • Carbomer • Pyridoxine Hci • Menthoxypropanediol • Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride • Hexyl Cinnamal • Linalool • Hydroxycitronellal • Citronellol • Benzyl Alcohol • Fumaric Acid • Parfum / Fragrance.

The key ingredients are amino acid (it balances hair fiber and limits oxidation stress) and vitamin B6 (it protects from external aggressors).

Price and accessibility:

Kerastase products are available in Douglas stores and in several online stores and it costs 25-30 euros. I got mine from an online outlet on sale for about 22 euros, but it’s still expensive in my book for a shampoo.

My overall opinion:

I like it, it does improve my hair a little bit because I can go for 2 days instead of one without washing my hair, but the roots still get oily after that. I’m only stretching to 3 days on weekends when I know I don’t have to go out. It does provide volume to fine hair and it makes the hair look shiny in a healthy way, not with the use of silicone, but since it it doesn’t make my hair look perfect for more than just one day (the second day it already looks flatter and a little bity oily at the roots), I don’t think it’s worth the high price tag. I mean, I’ve used half a bottle so far, so I doubt that there will be any more significant changes in the future. Therefore, I think that it’s a nice shampoo and all, but it’s not a wonder product that I have to go out of my way to repurchase it.
