Pro:Voke Hair Color Remover review

Once and a while I want to change something regarding my hair, be it the color, the cut or the styling. This time, I decided that since summer is here, I want to lighten my color a bit, but of course, I don’t want to spend a lot of money. So, when I saw this in the DM store, I just hat to grab it and put it to the test.

This is a hair color remover from a brand that doesn’t tell me anything to be honest. It says on the box that the product is made in Bulgaria, so that’s probably why it was so affordable.

The box contains the following products:

  • The activator
  • The remover
  • The buffer
  • The repair mask
  • Gloves
  • Hair cap

I respected the instructions word for word, so I did the following: first, the activator is poured into the remover bottle and everything is mixed together. It looks funny at first, like to liquids mixing together, but after some vigorous shaking, the liquid turns into a light-textured cream. For something that doesn’t contain ammonia or bleach, it sure stinks!

After the products was applied all over the hair, I put on the hair cap and I waited for 30 minutes. Next, I rinsed my hair for 5 minutes (honestly, I don’t know why it had to be that long because the product was rinsed faster) and I applied the buffer, which I think is really just a shampoo. I poured half a bottle, I lathered it up and then I rinsed again for another 5 minutes. I applied the rest of the buffer and I washed my hair for the second time.

Finally, I applied the hair mask which to be honest was awesome because it instantly made my hair smoother and I left it for about 2 minutes and then I rinsed my hair a final time.

What can I say is that it worked, but not exactly how I wanted to. On the box, it looked like black hair would turn into a light golden brown shade. I had colored hair, but it was a dark brown, granted a little bit darker towards the ends. Well, what this system did is bleach my hair. I think it’s just a light bleacher, although it says on the box that it doesn’t contain any bleach. Why do I say that? Because my hair does have now a lighter color, but all the red sub tones that I had in my hair are now emphasized and that’s exactly what I tried to avoid when I was coloring my hair and I always opted for cool toned shades.

Also, the hair does feel very dry now, especially at the ends and it looks a little brittle, which I will try to fix conditioner and hair masks.

Overall, I do think this Pro:Voke system works, but it’s not exactly a color remover that make the hair turn into its natural color again as marketed on the box, it’s just light hair bleaching. The products from the box are enough for medium hair, or even longer hair when it’s fine like mine, but for long, thick hair, a box is definitely not enough.

I paid around 14 euros for this hair color remover and I probably got what was expected for the price, since it’s much more expensive to do it at the hair salon. Also, on black hair I don’t think it works that well.
