This aloe gel from Holika Holika is another staple beauty product that was all the rage some time ago in the beauty community. It’s a multipurpose product that I don’t think is any more special than other aloe vera gels, but nevertheless I was curious.
Holika Holika is a Korean cosmetics brand founded in 2010 and, if I’m not mistaken, this was the first product that got them to be famous in the US and in Europe.
Packaging:
Although it’s just a plastic bottle with a cap, it is cute, like most packaging of Asian brands. It’s in the shape of an aloe vera leaf and it also has a shape drawn on the back so that it looks like there’s an actual aloe vera leaf in the bottle. I really like it, because it’s nice to have something that is not only useful, but also cute. I have only a small travel-sized bottle that contains 55 ml, but there’s also big 250 ml bottles.
Texture:
It looks and feels like a clear, scentless gel, but it’s not as thick, probably because it’s not pure aloe vera gel.
Ingredients:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Nelumbium Speciosum Flower Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Bambusa Vulgaris Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Leaf Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol
Most of the ingredients in here are suitable for oily and combination skin, also for acne prone skin, but funnily enough, it’s recommended for dry and sensitive skin. Probably because the aloe vera gel is very hydrating.
Price and accessibility:
Holika Holika products and especially this aloe vera gel is available in various pharmacies and online shops and also in beauty stores like DM. Also, it’s not that expensive, a full size bottle is sold for around 15 euros, but there are also stores where it’s sold for cheaper.
My overall opinion:
I haven’t tried the gel for the hair (it’s recommended for dry hair on the ends) because I have oily hair, but I did tried it on the face and body. On the face, to be honest I don’t think it does much but the good part is that it doesn’t feel sticky. I like it on the body because I applied it after hair removal on my legs and my skin didn’t look irritated. Then again, Bio-Oil has the same effect, so it all depends on what someone prefers – a gel or an oil. Did it convince me to become a frequent user? To be honest, no. It’s not a bad product, but it’s also not an universal miracle product.
