essence Lash Like A Boss Instant Lift & Curl Mascara review

If you read my blog you already know I love essence mascaras because they are cheap and they work just fine for the price. Well, unfortunately, like most drugstore brands essence does have hits and misses in their range and this mascara is sadly a miss. I saw it’s new at my local DM store and I anted to change it up a little bit and not go for the usual Lash Princess range, but by now I know it was a mistake.

Packaging:

The mascara comes in a golden mascara tube that contains 9.5 ml, which is quite good because other mascaras are smaller. I also like the curbed wand because it helps me have a more precise application even in the inner and outer corners of my eyes.

Texture:

Like most essence mascaras, this one is not clumpy and it has a liquid consistency. I don’t mind it because I’m not a fan of spider lashes.

Ingredients:

AQUA (WATER), GLYCERYL STEARATE, SYNTHETIC BEESWAX, COPERNICIA CERIFERA CERA (COPERNICIA CERIFERA (CARNAUBA) WAX), STEARIC ACID, GLYCERIN, PALMITIC ACID, ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL, PANTHENOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE, TALC, PVP, CELLULOSE, KAOLIN, ISOSTEARYL SEBACATE, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, POLYSORBATE 60, DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, SODIUM PHOSPHATE, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, PHENOXYETHANOL, SODIUM DEHYDROACETATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, CI 77007 (ULTRAMARINES), CI 77266 (BLACK 2) (NANO), CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES).

The mascara is not only cruelty free, but it also has a vegan formula as essence puts out only vegan products now (which is a big yay from me). I appreciate the shea butter and the castor seed oil in the formula, because it also helps to care for the lashes.

Price and accessibility:

essence products are available in DM stores and in several online shops. This mascara is sold for about 3.5 euros, which is more than affordable. I like a good cheap drugstore mascara, so I can’t complain.

My overall opinion:

Now let’s talk about the nitty gritty. Yes, the lashes do look very nice because the volume and the length is there. Yes, it’s easy to remove it with makeup remover and it doesn’t irritate the eyes. What bothers me about it is that it’s runny so when it’s hot or when my eyes get a little watery, there are black streaks under my eyes. And no, this doesn’t happen because it’s not a waterproof mascara because I don’t like waterproof mascaras and usually I don’t have these problems.

Therefore, it’s the only reason why I wouldn’t repurchase it and I wouldn’t recommend it. I know there are better mascaras out there that have it all while still being affordable. I would say that if you do want to get something from essence, go for the now iconic Lash Princess mascaras, either one of them.
