Lixirskin Universal Emulsion review

I’m still happy with my Mayie products when it comes to skin care, but I got a travel size of this emulsion in my Lookfantastic box and I just had to put it to the test. This is called an universal emulsion because it can be used as a day cream or a night cream or a face serum.

Lixirskin is a UK brand created by Colette Haydon, a doctor in dermo-pharmacy and it promotes a minimalistic skin care routine. To be honest, that’s what I like: simple products that work and that are enough to create a daily skin care routine that doesn’t require 1400 steps. I know self care is nice and even relaxing, but I don’t have time for that, especially not in the morning. I may do some more steps in the evening, but in the morning I need to be ready in 10 minutes, so that I have time to indulge with my morning coffee, to listen to some favorite songs and to get out of the door fast.

Packaging:

The full size of this product is available in 50 ml and 100 ml plastic tubes that look just like the one I have for my 30 ml travel size. However, it’s not exactly my favorite type of packaging because it can happen to squeeze out more products than what it was intended.

Texture:

Being an emulsion, this one looks and feels like a light lotion. It’s white and it does have a scent to it, but like I said, I don’t mind scented products. I can see how it can work on most skin types because it absorbs fast into the skin, but it’s still very hydrating.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Oleyl Erucate, Squalane, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Glycine Soya (Soybean) Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Phosphate, Arginine, Myristyl Myristate, Olive Glycerides, Phenoxyethanol, Oryzanol, Carbomer, Ceramide 3, Benzoic Acid, Glyceryl Laurate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Xanthan Gum, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Dehydroacetic Acid, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Linalool.

I sensed the shea butter in this because I know it feels amazing on the skin, but there are also other nice ingredients like evening primrose oil, rose extract, ylang-ylang oil and sweet scented geranium oil, mixed with arginine and other moisturizing ingredients.

Price and accessibility:

Lixirskin products are not available in Romanian shops and stores, but they can be ordered online. A 50 ml tube of this emulsion is sold in the brand’s shop for 26.67 UK pounds. It is pricey, but it’s not an absurd amount.

My overall opinion:

Since I love my Mayie Daily Defence SPF moisturizer (I already ordered a second bottle) I didn’t replace it, so I use this emulsion in the evening after the Hydration Booster Jelly. I must say the skin does feel soft and supple and it’s a nice moisturizer. However, it’s not enough to convince me that I need to pay more than 20 euros for it and I will stick with what I have after I use it. But, it does look promising and maybe it does wonders in combination with other products from the same brand.
