ESPA Clean & Green Detox Mask review

I can’t say that ESPA is one of my favorite brands because I think they’re overpriced and the products have a strong smell of essential oils. I like the philosophy behind the brand like the entire spa and relaxation thing, but that’s about it. Well, now I had a deluxe size of this face mask and I was happy to put it to the test.

Packaging:

The full size product (55 ml) comes in a jar, but since I only had a deluxe sample size, mine came in a plastic tube. The cap looks fancy because of the marble pattern on it, but it’s also just plastic.

Texture:

This felt and looked like a green clay mask and it also had a strong herbal scent. Since I don’t mind scents in cosmetics it’s not a big deal for me, but it’s good to know.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Kaolin, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Benzyl Alcohol, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Sodium Gluconate, Xanthan Gum, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Linoleic Acid, Levulinic Acid, Citric Acid, Sorbitan Stearate, Tocopherol, Sodium Levulinate, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Cymbopogon Nardus (Citronella) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Geraniol, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Leaf/Twig Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Linalool, Brassica Oleracea Acephala Leaf Extract, Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract, Fragrance* (Parfum), Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Bud Oil, Linolenic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Sodium Hydroxide.

The key ingredients in this face mask are broccoli seed oil, spinach, kale, spirulina, green kaolin clay, sunflower oil, soya oil, grapeseed oil, ylang ylang essential oil, lavender essential oil and petitgrain essential oil.

All in all, since it’s a clay mask at the base, this is a purifying and detoxing face mask mostly suitable for oily and combination skin, which is what I have.

Price and accessibility:

ESPA products are available only through online shops here in Romania, as far as I can tell. In the brand’s online shop, this face mask is sold for 30 UK pounds. I think it’s a bit expensive for a face mask, but there are more expensive skin care products out there.

My overall opinion:

My 30 ml tube has lasted me for 6 uses, so a full size jar would be enough for 11 uses. Therefore, if you put it like that, it’s worth to splurge on an expensive face mask. I used it only once a week and it was enough.

However, considering that honestly, it has the same effects on my skin like a cheap Balea clay face mask, I don’t think it’s worth it. Yes, the ingredients list is long and impressive in terms of the plant extracts and oils it contains, but I could get 30 Balea face masks for the price of a jar, or three decent clay face masks that would work just the same. So, I think you’re paying just for the brand name and it’s not worth it.
