Putting Yankee Candle scented candles to the test – Bright Lights Advent Calendar

You’re probably wondering what the heck has gotten into me with and advent calendar in January right? Well, the thing is plenty of advent calendars were on sale after the holidays and this one from Yankee Candle had a considerably reduced priced, so I had to get it because I was always curious about these candles but they are kind of expensive. So, I got an advent calendar that contains 24 tealights, plus a nice candle holder with Constellation motives to see if I like the scents and maybe to buy bigger ones in the future. There were 8 different scents (3 tealights with each scent), and I will tell you how I liked them, ranking them in order:

Twinkling Lights – almond, jasmine and amber notes. It smells sweet and very pleasant but it was the weakest scent of all. I really couldn’t smell it unless I would stick my nose next to the flame.

Soft Wool & Amber – citrus, lily, jasmine, amber, sandalwood and vanilla notes. The sandalwood note was the most powerful and probably that’s why I’m not a fan.

Silver Sage & Pine – the name says it all. It was a nice Christmas tree scent, but it’s nothing that I haven’t smelled before, it’s like the cheap candles I get from Pepco stores.

Pink Cherry Vanilla – I liked the cherry in combination with the vanilla, but I wish it were a more powerful scent.

Amber & Sandalwood – I liked it more than the soft wool and amber one, for some reason, so that’s why it’s higher on my list.

Christmas Cookie – again, the name says it all, it smells like sugar cookies and it is strong because that little tealight made the entire living room smell nice. I would get the full size of this one.

Letter to Santa – cinnamon, coconut, amber and pralines notes. It smells like a nice box of chocolates, at least that’s how I feel it, and it’s also a strong scent. I like it and I would purchase a bigger candle.

Christmas Eve – almonds, berries, cinnamon, cloves, violets, vanilla and pralines notes. This one was my favorite because of the combination of cinnamon and cloves which is my all time favorite Christmas scent, plus the fruity and floras notes in the mix. Also, string scent, so that a plus.

Bonus: I also had a votive candle in the scent Cinnamon Stick, which also had a strong scent and since I love cinnamon it was great.

What I learned from this experience is that I like soy wax candles because they don’t create so much smoke when they burn, plus they look so much nicer since the wax becomes transparent. And second, just because a scented candle is more expensive (a big jar candle is around 32 euros which is a lot to spend on a candle for me), it doesn’t mean that it’s also better. Some scents are nice, some are not, some scents are stronger and they fill the entire room while others are very light so there’s no point on calling them scented candles.

But, I will say that the idea of getting an advent calendar was fun, because now I know that there are 3 scents that I do like and I wouldn’t regret spending the extra money on.
