Weleda Skin Food Cream review

Weleda Skin Food is not a cream that I would have chosen myself for two reasons: first, because I don’t trust face and body products as I think products that are meant for the body are not suitable for the delicate skin on our faces and second, because it’s a rich cream more suitable for dry skin and I have combination skin. But, since I did get a sample size in a Lookfantastic box, I use it in the evening.

Weleda is a German cosmetics brand that was established in 1921. All of their products contain ingredients of natural origin and 80% of them come from certified ecological cultures. They have 8 places where they grow their own plants that are used in their products. Weleda was created by a medic, Ita Wegman, a philosopher, Rudolf Steiner and a chemist, Oskar Schmiedel. So that’t why they also have a holistic component to their branding.

Packaging:

The cream comes in a tube and it’s available in different sizes. The standard one seems to be 75 ml. I have a sample size that contains 10 ml. My cream comes in an aluminum tube, which is more practical than the typical plastic packaging. Also, all of the products are brightly colored depending on the range. For example, the Skin Food range is bright green.

Texture:

It’s a very rich cream and it takes some work to apply it. Even then, it doesn’t fully absorb as it feels like one of those wax-based creams. It also has a strong herbal scent, so it depends how much it is a bother for some people. Like I said over and over, I don’t have a problem with scented cosmetics, so I don’t mind it.

Ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Limonene*, Viola Tricolor Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Lanolin, Carrageenan, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Linalool*, Geraniol*, Citral*

The key ingredients are sunflower seeds oil, Moscato rose leaf extract, chamomile flower extract and marigold flower extract. There are also other natural ingredients such as cocoa seed butter, shea butter and rosemary extract.

Price and accessibility:

Weleda products are widely available in pharmacies, beauty stores and several online shops. Usually, this cream is sold for around 9 euros (the 75 ml size) , so it’s an affordable products.

My overall opinion:

I can’t say that I like it, but it’s because it’s meant for dry skin. Sure, it’s ok to use it in the evening, but I don’t like that it feel sticky on the skin and my face definitely looks shiny. I wouldn’t go out of the house like that. Perhaps, for those who have very dry skin it’s better, but even when I use a little on my hands to rub off the excess after applying it on the face, I feel my hands a little sticky. Maybe it’s because of the lanolin, I don’t know, but it feels like vaseline and that’s a look that I don’t like. So no, I will certainly not purchase the full size product.
