Bourjois Velvet The Pencil Lipstick review

Recently, I purchased another Notino beauty box, this time, one that contained beauty products suitable to pack in the vacation cosmetics bag. One of these products was this interesting crayon lipstick from Bourjois and I have to say I tend to like products that are more compact and that occupy less space in the makeup bag.

Packaging:

Like the name says, this is a lipstick that comes in the shape of a thick crayon and it’s also retractable. It contains 1.8 grams. The crayon has the color of the lipstick shade.

Texture:

This is a lipstick with a matte finish, but like the name says, it’s rather creamy and it feels very comfortable on the lips. I have the shade 05 Red Vintage, which is a brick red shade, but there are 8 shades available. I normally am not crazy about yet another red lipstick, but I didn’t have one that has this shade in my collection, so I quite like how it looks on my lips.

Ingredients:

Isododecane, Caprylyl Methicone, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Synthetic Wax, Diisostearyl Malate, Polybutene, Cetearyl Behenate, Silica, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, [May Contain/Peut Contenir/+/-: Red 28 Lake (CI 45410), Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides ( 77491,77492,77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 7 (CI 15850), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985), Red 6 (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Red 30 (CI 73360)].

I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t contain bees wax, so at least it has a vegan formula.

Price and accessibility:

Bourjois products are widely available in Douglas stores, DM stores, Marionnaud stores as well as in several online shops. On Notino, this lipstick is sold for about 5.5 euros, which is really affordable for a good drugstore lipstick.

My overall opinion:

Bourjois is one of those brands that I don’t tend to buy because it seems so basic, but all the products that I tried from them (except for the perfume which didn’t blow me away) were quite nice. I had a nice face powder, a cute blush, a delicious smelling bronzer palette and they were all very nice products. I don’t think I have ever tried a Bourjois lipstick but this lipstick crayon was a very nice surprise. I think I just keep forgetting that Bourjois products tend to go for that French chic look and their products are often simple and are not available in many shades.

Although it’s a crayon, the formula is very creamy, it feels soft on the lips and it has a pretty good longevity. It doesn’t beat my favorite liquid matte lipstick, but it’s almost as good and I’m surprised because I didn’t think that a crayon could do that. So I do like it very much, including the color, but I don’t know if I would take it on vacation with me because I’m afraid it could melt if it’s too hot. Maybe when I use up some of it, so that it completely retracts into the plastic packaging. Other than the melting concerns, for the price, I think it’s a very nice matte drugstore lipstick and I’m glad I got it in the beauty box.
