Apivita Hydration Moisturizing Shampoo review

This little guy was another addition to one of the Notino beauty boxes that I got lately and I took it with me in vacation. I figured it’s a moisturizing shampoo and since I was planning to spend a lot of time outdoors, in the sun, I think it would work.

Apivita is a brand that I often see in pharmacies and most of their products contain honey. The brand was founded in 1979 in Athens, Greece, by two pharmacists, Niki and Nikos Koutsianas. Apivita means “life of the bee” because the key ingredients are derived from bee products.

Packaging:

The full size product is a plastic bottle that contains 250 ml, but I only have a travel-sized bottle that contains 75ml. To be honest it’s a good size because I used it three times and I’m not even half way through the bottle, so I’m saving it for my next trip. The packaging is designed with different colors depending on the product range. For example, the Hydration range has the color blue.

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water/Eau**, Aqua/Water/Eau, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium PEG-5 Laurylcitrate Sulfosuccinate, PEG-60 Almond Glycerides, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf* Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Propolis Extract, Hydrolyzed Oats*, Mel/Honey/Miel, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil*, Panthenol, Glycerin, Arginine, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, PEG-4 Rapeseedamide, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Sodium Gluconate, Polyquaternium-10, Sodium Chloride, Dehydroacetic Acid, Parfum/Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Coumarin, Linalool.

The key ingredients are propolis, sage extract, rosemary extract, thyme honey, hyaluronic acid, aloe, oat proteins, rosemary infusion, geranium essential oil, rose essential oil and panthenol. 86% pf the ingredients are of natural origin.

Price and accessibility:

Apivita products are available in many pharmacies and several online stores. Since I got mine from Notino, I’ll go with their price. The full size of this shampoo is sold for around 12 euros. It’s more on the expensive side for a shampoo, but now I think that if it’s good, why not splurge a little?

My overall opinion:

From what I noticed, this shampoo does a good job to leave the hair light and smooth and frizz-free. Also, it gives a nice shine to the hair. I wasn’t as blown away by it like I was from the Alfaparf shampoos, but I do like it. And I think that now, that I’ve seen that the right shampoos are doing a better job with my oily hair, I don’t mind spending a little extra for a good products. I think that this is a nice shampoo for anyone who is interested in using more natural formulas, but it’s a good shampoo for frequent use. I don’t think it’s suitable for hair that needs extra care, but it’s good for all hair types that don’t need much, just some hydration.

Also, I think it’s nice to use shampoos that are free of silicone and sulphates because it just helps the hair to have a natural appearance, without weighing it down. I don’t have anything against hair treatments and I don’t say that I won’t ever use any drugstore shampoos again, but I do see the appeal in more natural shampoos.
