Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lipstick review

This was another impulsive buy because I had a coupon in DM stores for 25% off on certain lip products. So, I decided let’s go for a long-lasting lip color because I only have one other liquid lipstick and now I’m not that happy with the shade I picked. Unfortunately, at my local DM they didn’t have as many shades as I would have liked in stock and I didn’t want to add yet another red lipstick to my collection, so I chose a dark pink shade.

Packaging:

The lipstick comes in a plastic tube and it has a dove foot applicator. It contains 5 ml which I think it’s little quantity for my liking. I think lipsticks and mascaras should contain 10 ml but that’s just my opinion. The tube is supposed to have the color of the lipstick but it doesn’t quite match up so a tester is still necessary. They didn’t have a tester for the shade that I chose, so it was a blind buy.

Texture:

The lipstick is very thick and one coat is frankly enough to cover the lips, but I add a little extra just here and there where I find that little dots are needed. It has a nice vanilla scent (and taste) and I know it doesn’t matter for many people, but lip products should smell yummy because they go on your mouth, you know? It’s a little sticky at first, but it dries in a few minutes and then it has a matte finish.

Ingredients:

DIMETHICONE TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE ISODODECANE NYLON-611/DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER C30-45 ALKYLDIMETHYLSILYL POLYPROPYLSILSESQUIOXANE LAUROYL LYSINE ALUMINA SILICA SILYLATE DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE PHENOXYETHANOL CAPRYLYL GLYCOL LIMONENE ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE PARAFFIN BENZYL BENZOATE BENZYL ALCOHOL CITRONELLOL PARFUM / FRAGRANCE [+/- MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR CI 45410 / RED 28 LAKE CI 77891 / TITANIUM DIOXIDE CI 15850 / RED 7 CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 / IRON OXIDES CI 45380 / RED 22 LAKE CI 15985 / YELLOW 6 LAKE CI 19140 / YELLOW 5 LAKE CI 42090 / BLUE 1 LAKE CI 15850 / RED 6 CI 17200 / RED 33 LAKE MICA] F.I.L. Unfortunately, there are no special ingredients in the formula, nothing that could show me hey, this has some lip care in it. But, with transfer proof, long-lasting makeup I think you should accept the fact that you’re putting some kind of paint on, let’s be honest.

Price and accessibility:

Maybelline products are widely available in beauty stores and online shops. At DM, this lipstick is sold for about 9 euros, which is a medium price for drugstore makeup because there are other more expensive brands available. Considering the quality and the fact that you don’t need to reapply it as often, I think it’s worth it. Especially since I got it on sale, it was a good deal.

My overall opinion:

I have the shade 150 Pathfinder, which is a dark pink like I said. It’s not the ideal color, but I think it does suit me, it goes with my complexion and with my eyes and hair, so I think it was the best choice from what was available in the store. It doesn’t dry up the lips and it doesn’t make them look like a butthole. I’m sorry for the comparison, but we all remember that years ago, when the first matte liquid lipsticks came out, they looked awful on the lips. It is kiss proof and it has very little transfer even when drinking and eating. I wore this lipstick for 12 hours straight and in the evening, when I took my makeup off there was still a light pink shade remaining on my lips.

Now, since I have only one other liquid lipstick in my collection, from L’Oreal (yay to sister-brands, right?), the Infaillible Matte Resistance one, I have to compare the two. To be honest, I think the Maybelline one is better, not just because of the shade, but because it more opaque and it’s also a little bit creamier, which makes it more comfortable on the lips. In other words, I like both lipsticks, but since L’Oreal is a bit more expensive than Maybelline as far as I can notice, I think the cheaper option works just the same, or even better regarding certain aspects.
