Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish review

It was not my intention to make a separate blog post about some drugstore nail polishes, but I feel like no one talks much about Rimmel products and some of them are quite good.

I bought one nail polish just because I has a coupon from DM, it was a pale pink shade called 722 All Nails On Deck, but I added another two shades in my collection (703 White Hot Love and 719 Mermaid Fin) because they were available in Penny supermarkets and I just grabbed them without even thinking.

Packaging:

The nail polishes come in glass bottles that contain 8 ml, which is quite basic for this type of product. Nail polish bottles are just there to see the color inside. My complaint is that I’ve gone through the pink shade quite fast because I used it often and half of it is gone and it’s difficult to get the remaining product on the brush. Most likely I will have to throw away at least 25% of the nail polish simply because I can’t get it on the brush to use it.

Texture:

The nail polish is quite thick (at least the pink and the white shades), but you do need to use two coats, because it can become streaky and it looks bad with just one coat.

Ingredients:

BUTYL ACETATE, ETHYL ACETATE, NITROCELLULOSE, ACETYL TRIBUTYL CITRATE, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, TOSYLAMIDE/EPOXY RESIN, STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, STEARALKONIUM BENTONITE, SILICA, TRIPHENYL PHOSPHATE, ADIPIC ACID/NEOPENTYL GLYCOL/ TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER, AQUA/WATER/EAU, DIACETONE ALCOHOL, ETOCRYLENE, KAOLIN, GLYCIDYL NEODECANOATE/ PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE/TMP CROSSPOLYMER, MEK, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, CORALLINA OFFICINALIS EXTRACT, ACRYLATES/ DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER, ISOSORBIDE DICAPRYLATE/CAPRATE, DIMETHYL ISOSORBIDE, PHOSPHORIC ACID, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, n- BUTYL ALCOHOL, DIMETHICONE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, BENZOPHENONE-1, CETYL PEG/PPG-10/1 DIMETHICONE, POLYVINYL BUTYRAL, POLYBUTYLENE GLYCOL/MDI COPOLYMER, ACETONE, TRIMETHYLPENTANEDIYL DIBENZOATE, POLYETHYLENE, STEARALKONIUM HECTORITE, HYDROLYZED CONCHIOLIN PROTEIN, CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS (SAFFLOWER) SEED OIL, MACROCYSTIS PYRIFERA (KELP) EXTRACT, TIN OXIDE, [MAY CONTAIN/+/-:MICA, D&C YELLOW NO. 11 (CI 47000), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), D&C RED NO. 7 CALCIUM LAKE (CI 15850), FD&C YELLOW NO. 5 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 19140), MANGANESE VIOLET (CI 77742), ULTRAMARINES (CI 77007), ALUMINUM POWDER (CI 77000), D&C RED NO. 6 BARIUM LAKE (CI 15850), FD&C BLUE NO. 1 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 42090), D&C RED NO. 34 CALCIUM LAKE (CI 15880), FERRIC FERROCYANIDE (CI 77510), BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE (CI 77163), D&C VIOLET NO. 2 (CI 60725)]

Price and accessibility:

Rimmle nail polishes are quite affordable, I would say that in average a nail polish costs around 2 euros, but I got them for 2.5 euros (from DM) or even for just 1.5 euros (from Penny). Therefore, regardless if the price varies, it’s affordable. Rimmel products are also available in Douglas stores and in several online shops.

My overall opinion:

I strongly recommend these nail polishes even if you need two coats because it stays very long on the nails. I do my nails once a week and even then, I don’t necessarily have to do them, but I just want to change my color. It doesn’t chip and I don’t do anything special. I use a base coat and a top coat, which I do for every nail polish that I own, but the others are not as good as these from Rimmel. Of course, I’m talking about affordable nail polishes, although I did have another one from a beauty box that’s more expensive and it chipped from the first day of application.

It dries very fast, it really is dry in one minute, but even so, I do wait for 10-15 minutes before I do things that are harsh on the nails. But to do some simple things such as grabbing something carefully, you’re good to go.

There are different finishes available. For example, the white nail polish is matte (and I think it looks gorgeous with bronzy skin during summer to be honest), the pink one has a satin finish and the Mermaid Fin shade is kind of holographic because it looks gray or green, depending on how the light reflects on it. However, the holographic nail polish works better as a topper because it h a thin consistency and it looks transparent on the nails.

To sum it up, if you don’t mind having to use several coats of nail polish and you have the patience to apply it so that it doesn’t become streaky, this nail polish it’s worth it because it stays put on the nails and there is no chipping (unless you really do some hard work and in that case there’s no nail polish that would last).
