Since it’s Sunday night when I’m writing this post and I try to think about anything else besides going to work tomorrow, I decided to show you my eyeshadow palette collection. Now, don’t get too excited, because it’s all drugstore and it’s a very small collection because I’m very careful on what I’m spending my money on and I don’t keep palettes that are too old. However, I thought it would be a good idea to show you what I got and some mini-reviews, so you know what I have as comparison for future palettes I review. I decided to rank my palettes from the worst to the best, or from less used to favorites, so to say.

essence-be-kissed-by-the-moon

essence be kissed by the moon

It’s technically an eyes and face palette, but since there are 4 eyeshadows and 2 face powders in it, I thought it’s mostly meant for the eyes. I love essence products and I have or have had quite a few, from mascara and lip gloss, to nail polish, eyeliners, face powders and single eyeshadows. I still have a couple of eye shadows that I use a lot, so I bought this palette thinking that I would like it just like the rest of the products. Granted, it was very cheap, around 20 lei or 4,5 euros or something like that but I thought it was ok because the entire palette has only 8 grams. It has 4 eyeshadows, one bronzer and one blush, all with a shimmery texture. That I didn’t mind because I like my shimmers, but there’s no color payoff. All you can see on the lid, no matter how you apply it is just glitter. The blush is what I like the most because it’s a pale rose and it doesn’t emphasize texture on the skin, so that’s the only reason why I’m keeping the palette. The eyeshadows can only used as eyeshadow toppers at the most.

essence-to-the-moon-and-back

essence to the moon and back

The color are slightly better in this little palette, but the pans are so damn small that it pisses me off when I try to use them. I received this in the Marie Claire Beauty Kit or otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it.

fraulein-38-palette

Fraulein 38 eyeshadow palette

It doesn’t have a name and it’s one of those private labeled palettes. It comes in a simple black packaging and it has 120 colors and I bought it in a frenzy of having a colorful palette with all the possible colors. The quality is ok-ish, most of them are shimmers but they’re surprisingly pigmented, so I don’t use them often because I don’t have a light hand and I prefer buildable shades. And it’s too bulky so I avoid using it. The pans are very small, and the formula is quite fragile as a 2-3 came already broken during shipping, even though the palette was packaged nicely. I keep it for some strange colors that I don’t have in other palettes, but unless I suddenly become a makeup artist I won’t be buying large palettes anymore because I don’t use them.

IDC-Color-Natural-palette

IDC Color Natural palette

IDC Color Makeup is a brand owned by Spanish group Aquarius Cosmetic. I don’t know about the rest of the products, but the eyeshadow palette is made in China, just like elf and like many other eyeshadow brands. This palette is, in my opinion, a dupe for the Naked 3 from Urban Decay. The formula is ok, there are mattes that are a little chalky and shimmers that have a little too much glitter, but overall it’s ok, considering that I bought it for around 4,5 euros just like the essence palettes which are much smaller. The packaging is very nice and sturdy, it has a mirror and all, but my main complain is that the shades are too similar so that no matter which color combinations I choose I always end up with a  mauvey eye with a pop of gold. I still use it, but only if I know that’s the kind of look I want.

in-thebalm-of-your-hand

In theBalm of Your Hand vol.1

I always liked the cutesy retro packaging of theBalm products, so I was happy yo by this palette, which contains some of their most popular products – Insane Jane, Mischevious Marissa, Sexy and Lead Zeppelin as eyeshadows, Mary-Lou Manizer as highlighter, Bahama Mama as bronzer, Hot Mama, Argyle and Cabana Boy as blushes and Caramel and Mia Moore as lipsticks. All the shades are either single products or come from various other palettes. I love their cardboard packaging, it’s very sturdy and nice, the lip products have their own separate spot, but most of the shades I didn’t like. I don’t use the lipsticks because I don’t like applying them with a brush, I like classic bullet lipsticks or liquid products with a wand. From the 4 eyeshadows, 3 are shimmers. Lead Zeppelin is a color that looks great in the pan but turns muddy on me. Bahama Mama is too warm on me and Hot Mama and Cabana Boy I use only during summer or with and extremely light hand because I like my blushes subtle and I can’t pull off bold colors on my light complexion. So, I still use the palette, but about half of the shades are duds for me. Good thing I bought this on sale.

meet-matte-nude

Meet Matte Nude

My other theBalm palette is an all mattes eyeshadow palette with 9 shades named after different Matts. It’s a neutral palette but I I like the fact it has both warm and cool-toned eyeshadows in it. However, it is kinda boring, mostly suitable for quick office or school looks. I’m also not a big fan of the formula for theBalm matte shadows, I find them a little too chalky. However, I might add some other palettes to my collection if I find them at a good price because they are too cute.

sephora-donut

Sephora Donut miniature palette

This cute mini palette with cute packaging is not as affordable considering I bought it for 40 lei, or about 8,5 euros considering it has only 6 eyshadows of 1 gram each. And that was when it was on sale. However, I appreciate the fact that it’s made in Poland and I love all the colors. The palette contains 3 browns, one gold, one pink and one creamy pink as the lightest shades. Candy is a gorgeous shimmery pink and Honey is a beautiful gold with a satin finish. I also like all the browns in this palette. My only complaint is that they face away too quickly, even when I use a primer, so they’re not long wearing. Nevertheless, I would like to try some more Sephora eyeshadows because they’re not bad at all.

revlon-colorstay

Revlon Colorstay Lavender Medow

I do realize this quad is at old as history because they don’t make them like this anymore, but the formula is still good and I always get compliments from my husband when I wear these purple-mauve colors because he likes how they highlight my hazel eyes. Plus, it was a gift from my cousin, so it also has sentimental value and I will only get rid of it when and if I use it up.

i-heart-chocolate-pink-fizz

I Heart Chocolate Pink Fizz

Everyone knows by now by the products made by Makeup Revolution and how they dupe popular brands. Honestly, I couldn’t care less because I can’t afford to buy high end makeup unless I find some items in outlets here and there. This was my first palette bought from Makeup Revolution and I wanted it because it’s pink and because the color scheme is a mixture of neutrals, pinks and a pop of blue. The packaging is really cute, it looks like a pink plastic chocolate bar and the eyeshadows have a slight candy scent. They’re made in China though, just so you know. I don’t think this is supposed to be a dupe for someting, but either way the quality of the eyeshadows didn’t blow me away. Some of the shimmers like Celebrate which looks like a sea blue and Rosy which looks like the perfect baby pink don’t show up as bright on the lid, even when I tried applying them wet. However, I did like the palette overall.

i-heart-chocolate-and-peaches

I Heart Chocolate Chocolate and Peaches

Now this is definitely a dupe for the peach palette from Too Faced. I haven’t played as much with this because it’s a rather new addition to my collection, but I do love the mixtures of browns and pinks, with purple, blue and green in between. There’s no ranking between these Makeup Revolution palette because I like both the same.

sleek-all-the-fun-of-the-fair

Sleek i-Divine All The Fun Of The Fair

My favorite palettes and the moment are both from Sleek and are both the newest to my collection. Sleek is a UK brand, but the products are made in China. Nevertheless, the quality is surprisingly good. The eyeshadows didn’t look like much in the pan or even swatched, but they apply beautifully on the eyes. This palette was a limited edition – like many of Sleek eyeshadows are – as part of the Whimsical Wonderland collection. I wanted it for the beautiful pastel shades and I love the fact that the color story makes sense and you can see the colors grouped as quads or even as trios that go so well together and I’ve noticed this with my other Sleek palette as well. There are 12 eyeshadows of 1.1 grams each, which might not seem like a lot, but I don’t big pans because I rarely finish an eyeshadow. My favorite colors in this palette are Shoot-the-Chutes, the second color from the top row, Teacups, the rose-gold from far right in the first row and Dodgems the second-to-last purple in the second row.

sleek-del-mar-volume-II

Sleek i-Divine Del Mar Volume II

I expected to like the Fun of the Fair palette more, but I ended up loving the Del Mar palette, especially for summer. Ibiza Rocks is one of the most beautiful yellows I have ever seen and I don’t even like yellow, San Antonio is a gorgeous peach shade, and Bora Bora and Ocean Beach are beautiful green shades, perfect for the summer. And so, I didn’t expect this palette to become the one I love the most in my collection but it did, because even though I’m drawn to browns and pinks, greens and even yellow look great on my eyes. I bought both palettes from an outlet store for only 25 lei or about 5 euros each, which is great because Sleek palettes are sold in Romania for about 10 euros each usually.

This is all my little collection of eyeshadow palettes which is still a lot for me considering I usually only have one of each products when it comes to other makeup items, but eyeshadows are my weakness. For the future, I will certainly add more Sleek makeup to my collection, or even some from Makeup Revolution and of course, I’m interested in exploring other drugstore brands as well.

    • Yes, me too. I think eyeshadow palettes are my favorite makeup item ever. I known I already have enough, but that does not mean I will not by more
