Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Proofing 2 in 1 wash mask and oil free moisturizer review

Wow, that title is a chunk full, isn’t it? I decided that since I’m almost done with the face wash and the moisturizer is long gone I could give my two cents on these products.

First of all, I bought the face wash and the moisturizer from Neutrogena because I never used any of their skincare and I heard good things about their products. Second, I’m 32 years old, but I do have periods when I get acne on my chin, on the forehead or even on the cheeks here and there due to hormonal changes or during transitional seasons, like spring and autumn. So I figured I should give these products a try, especially since I have combination to oily skin – depending on its mood.

Both products claim to have the ClearDefend technology and blah, blah, blah, but to me, these are just some gimmicky names brands use for their formulas. The face wash is supposed to be a daily face wash and a mask, depending on how you want to use it. It comes in a 150 ml tube.

Let me start by saying that this is no face wash that you can use daily, this being the reason while I still have some left even though I use the tube since spring. As you might be able to tell from the picture, it has the texture and consistency of a clay mask. Naturally, because it contains kaolin. It also has salicylic acid, which shouldn’t be a surprise. You can’t use this stuff daily as a face wash because it strips your skin of all its natural oils and it leaves if dry as heck. I don’t know everything about skincare, but I know that if you have acne problems, the solutions is to make sure that the balance of oil produced by the skin is normal and not excessive. If you strip them completely off, the skin will produce more oils, as a response. So, of course, it didn’t help with the acne and I was dry like a fig. Instead, now I use it once, maximum twice a week as a face mask. And they say it’s also suitable for sensitive skin. While it contains menthol, people. I’m out of words.

The Visibly Clear spot proofing oil free moisturizer is finished and I don’t have the package anymore, but it came in a 50 ml tube. While it does contain some aloe and chamomile extracts, plus salicylic acid and a bunch of other stuff I can’t write or read in English, this moisturizer was weird. It has a very light texture and it absorbs very fast into the skin. So fast, that you have to work fast if you want to spread it evenly and my skin still felt like thirsty for hydration. Although it’s supposed to be oil free, I don’t think it did any good to my skin, because instead of feeling matified, my skin was shiny like a disco ball while feeling dry at the same time.

I will give them some positives thou. Both products are very refreshing and invigorating, probably due to the menthol so they’re nice to use during summer. I wouldn’t recommend them, but remember that skin care is very tricky and what didn’t work for me may be excellent for others, so try them if you like, just make sure you’re not sensitive to any of the ingredients.

From me, I would give these products only a 2/5 ♥♥

    • Ha ha, thank you. Usually I’m always the “glass is half full” type of person, but I remember these products were a big disappointment and I decided to laugh about it instead of getting upset.
