New matte lipsticks in my collection – L’Oreal, Revolution Beauty and Avon

new-lipsticks

Hi lovely people. Today I thought about sharing with you some of the lipsticks I added recently to my collection – which is a small one, I have like only 6 of them and I’m happy with that because I’m not a lipstick person, to be honest. Just give me a lip balm and in some cases, a lipgloss and I’m a happy girl. I’ll start with my least favorite to my favorite one out of this bunch.

I Heart Revolution Mystical Mermaid lipstick

I have the shade Beach Babe and I couldn’t resist the cute packaging. This was part of some sort of mermaids and dragons collection, which on a side note was a common theme for multiple makeup brands this year. I got this shade because it seemed to be a pinky nude that I typically go for.

I’ll start with the good. The packaging is really cute. The tube is a metallic green almost turquoise, with little fish scales on the lid and the same pattern can also be seen on the lipstick itself. The tube is made of metal and plastic and the lid is all plastic. It has an affordable price, only around 5 euros. Aaaand, that’s about all the good things I can say about this lipstick.

The scent is awful, It bothered me from the beginning because while I like scented makeup products, I want them to smell good. I think it’s supposed to have a coconut scent, but it’s so artificial that it becomes obnoxious. The color is a beautiful nude or at least something I would like to wear, but the formula is not so great. I didn’t do lips swatches because I’m really bad at those, but the lipstick is creamy and it doesn’t feel drying although it has a matte finish. However, when applied, it just looks like I slapped some paint on my lip. It’s opaque, but the bad kind of opaque, like I have plastic lips. I would have hoped for something more natural looking. Also, the lipstick seems to be crumbling on my lips for some reason.

All in all, I can’t recommend this lipstick as much as I like Makeup Revolution or Revolution Beauty like they’re called now. Oh, and I also seem to have crewed something with my lipstick because after I twisted it all the way up for the picture, after closing it and then opening it again to smell the scent, the tube is smeared with lipstick on the edges, probably because it’s so creamy that it might break if you’re not careful enough.

L’Oreal Collection Exclusive lipstick

This one is somewhat of a dud for me because I didn’t buy the right shade for me. That’s why I hate buying lipsticks online, the color in the picture is most times no accurate with what you get in real life. I have the shade Blake’s Delicate Rose, inspired by Blake Lively. I love Blake and I like pink, but I know that not all kinds of pinks suit me and this is a very vibrant pink. I don’t like how it looks on me, probably because I don’t have blond hair and blue eyes to fit into the Barbie doll look.

The packaging is gorgeous, a matte black plastic on the outside and with a golden metallic tube and detailing. I got mine from a makeup outlet for around 5 euros, but I think it retails for more usually.

It has a matte formula while being creamy enough to feel comfortable on the lips and a pleasant rose scent. However, you do feel the scent, so if you don’t like rose scented products you might want to avoid it. I think it could be more opaque because you need to go back and forth a few times to get to the real color.

I would have liked this lipstick but in another shade and serves me right for not looking up some swatches online before buying it.

Avon True Color Perfectly Matte lipstick

This is not new to my collection but I thought I might just throw it in here because it’s about matte lipsticks. I have the shade Berry Blast, which is a beautiful rich berry shade, a darker lipstick perfect for fall or for a more dramatic makeup. Or to wear it whenever you feel like it.

The packaging is interesting, the outside is made of some sort of soft black rubber and the inside is a silver tube.

The con of this matte formula is that it’s not comfortable on the lips because it feels dry, but it doesn’t emphasize the fine lines.

The biggest pro is that this lipstick lasts all freaking day long, I swear. I wore this to a wedding where I ate and drank and at the end of the day the lipstick was still there looking great. For those who don’t know, a Romanian wedding complete with attending the civil matrimony and the religious service lasts over 12 hours. So, you can imagine how much lasting power this lipstick has. The color is opaque, you don’t need to use tricks like applying foundation on the lips or lining your lips first to obtain maximum coverage.

I’ll also add some arm swatches. From top to bottom we have the Revolution Beauty mermaid nude lipstick, then the pink L’Oreal lipstick and the berry Avon lipstick.

To sum it up, I would say based on my experience, to skip the Revolution Beauty lipstick formula, to go for the L’Oreal one if you want something more comfortable on the lips and you don’t mind reapplying it or doing some retouches from time to time and to opt for the Avon True Color one if you want a very long lasting lipstick that doesn’t budge and doesn’t smear your lips.
