Rimmel London Royal Blush review

rimmel london royal blush

This is one of my findings in an online makeup outlet and it’s one of those things that you don’t think much of but then you end up loving it. I don’t know if it’s available everywhere anymore because it was launched about 2 years ago and it probably wasn’t that popular. I tend to buy almost all my makeup when I find sales or some type of promotions or I browse through makeup outlets, so I rarely have new products to talk about. But I figured that probably there are also people like me, who don’t necessarily go for the newest releases and prefer to add things to their collection whenever they find a good deal.

So, before saying something about the product I must say that I’m not the biggest fan of Rimmel. I tried a mascara from them which I didn’t like at all – granted one of the cheapest ones, their eyeshadow palettes simply don’t appeal to me at all because of the color scheme and overall look and if I remember correctly I also had a lipstick that was very drying.

Therefore, I didn’t have much hope for this blush, but I picked it up anyway because it has such a cute packaging and it was really cheap, so I figured I have not much to lose if I try it. Since I tend to get oily on the cheeks I usually avoid cream products and I also wasn’t much into blushes but now my preferences have changed. With the right type of blush, that isn’t too pigmented because I tend to have a heavy hand, I ended up using this type of product daily. I have very pale and fair skin, so especially when I’m not at least a little bit tanned, I had people telling me I look…sick. That’s not a cute look, so if I add just a little bit of blush to brighten up the face, it makes a big difference.

The blush comes in a tiny plastic compact because it has only 3,5 grams. which is good because cream products expire sooner and I don’t want to have to throw half of it away. I have the shade 003 Coral Queen and I noticed when looking it up online that the plastic case has a color similar to the one in the pan. Mine is made in Germany.

The reason why it works for me so well is that it’s not exactly a cream blush, but a cream to powder formula. They say you can apply it under and over powder products but I don’t recommend it applied over powder. Like most other cream products it doesn’t blend well. Plus, since it’s also very pigmented if I go too heavy-handed with the blush I can always go over with a face powder and tone it down as much as I want.

Most blushes tend to fade away throughout the day, but I find that this blush has long-lasting staying power and it looks good even after hours and hours of wearing it. I apply it best by using my fingers to dab a little on the cheeks and then I either use my fingers to blend it or I can also use a brush and it looks great. For some I know it might sound unhygienic to use products where you have to use your finger to apply them, but I always make sure I have clean hands and since I don’t do makeup on others, I really don’t think it’s a problem. I use my fingers whenever I have trouble figuring out how to apply something, be it a foundation or an eyeshadow, so I don’t mind doing a same for a blush. This is how I do my makeup, I’m not saying there’s a right or wrong way on how to do it.

The lighting is kind of bad in the swatch picture because I only have time to write on the blog at night and I didn’t want to use the flash on my camera because it makes the entire hand look white. The color is a beautiful coraly shade, as the name describes it and it has a very nice texture. It’s not completely matte and also not completely shimmery. It’s in between because it has some very very fine gold sparkles in it that don’t look too glittery on the skin and only have that nice brightening effect on the cheeks.

In other words, I love this blush and I think it’s a good option even for those who usually avoid cream products. Just don’t buy it if you don’t like to use your fingers to apply it. It doesn’t look good at all when you apply it with a brush or a sponge.

I don’t know the exact retail price of this, I bought it from a makeup outlet for around 3 euros and I think I saw it on Amazon for around 3 UK pounds and at Feelunique for around 6,5 euros, so it depends on where you buy it from.
