Too Faced Christmas Cookie House Party LE Makeup Collection review

I’m so excited to share this with you because from the moment I first saw this set I knew I wanted it. I always wanted to have one of Too Faced’s Christmas sets and I know that everyone says the quality is not the same as in other products from the brand and the colors are repetitive but I just had to have this set. This set has a retail price of $58 and I got mine from Sephora for 283 lei (around 60 euros) which I think is a little more expensive than in the US. Well, this was a Christmas present I bought for myself and I told my husband I don’t want anything else for Christmas, so I don’t feel as guilty for buying something so expensive in terms of makeup.

The set is a limited edition one and the packaging is so damn cute. It looks like a gingerbread house and it contains 3 pieces: the house (an eyeshadow palette), a little gingerbread man (mini eyeshadow palette) and the rooftop (face palette). The design is beautiful and although its made of cardboard it doesn’t look cheap, at least not in my opinion. The palettes are all magnetic so they stick together to form the little house, but I do have to say the rooftop doesn’t stay put so you can’t hold it in your hands without it falling off. The box also contains 3 mini products and these will be the first ones I will talk about.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance 24 Hour Eye Shadow Primer (travel size)

This is a good primer as far as I can tell because my eyeshadows did last all day without creasing, so I’m happy to have it. I must admit I use it only with my “good” palettes because I don’t want to waste it for simple makeup looks that I know I will wear for only a couple of hours.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (travel size)

I don’t know what the fuss is about this mascara because it doesn’t perform better than my usual drugstore mascaras. I’m glad I got to try it, but I would certainly not pay the bigger price tag just because it has a cheeky name and it comes in a pink packaging.

Too Faced Melted Matte Gingerbread Man Liquid Lipstick (travel size)

The color is gorgeous, I don’t know how to compare it. It’s a mix of brown and orange but in a good way. It also smells delicious like gingerbread and it looks great on the lips. It also has a decent lasting power.

All three miniatures are made in the USA.

Face palette

The face palette is basically the roof of the house and it contains three face powders: a bronzer, a blush and a highlighter. The bronzer, called Extra Toasty and the blush in Daydreamer are both quite pigmented so I don’t have to use a lot of product. The bronzer is a little bit dark for my pale face during winter, but the blush is very nice, a color that I actually wear quite often. They are both matte.

The highlighter, in the shade Get Frosted is very subtle and it doesn’t have any particular color on my skin, it just adds some fine sparkle which is what I like when it comes to highlighters. I don’t like those extra blinding highlighters because they just don’t suit my everyday look and my makeup preferences. The palette, just like the other two is supposed to smell like cookies, but all I get is a sweet sugary smell. The bronzer contains 3 grams, the blush contains 2.8 grams and the highlighter contains 3.5 grams. The palette is made in China.

Mini eyeshadow palette

This one contains 6 eyeshadows (4 glitters and 2 matte eyeshadows) and it has the same sugary scent. Honestly, I don’t know who would use only this palette to create a look because the glitters are quite chunky so I would only use it for a party look. Each eyeshadow contains 1 gram (6 grams in total) and is also made in China.

The main product of the set (as I see it) is the 20 pan eyeshadow palette that contains a mix of finishes and colors, some are neutral and some are pops of color. I did dome swatches, the first two rows from left to right in the first picture and the last two rows in the second picture. Each pan contains 1 gram (20 grams in total). This is also scented and is also made in China.

I know it’s not the same formula as the usual Too Faced eyeshadows, but I must say I do think these are good too. They’re creamy, they are not too powdery, easy to blend and there are some really interesting colors. I didn’t get to play with all 20 shades yet because I don’t have the set for that long, but I did use quite a few eyeshadows in the last weeks and I had them on even for more than 12 hours and they staid put, didn’t crease and didn’t get muddy on me.

So, for me, the set is worth it because I’m a sucker for cute packaging and for neutral palettes with some pops of color in them. I will certainly not buy Too Faced sets each year, but I had to have just one to add to my collection. I like their eyeshadows and I already have a couple of other palettes on my list although eyeshadows are the last think I need. So yes, I will create tons of holiday-themed looks this season, but I will also use them all year round since the colors are all wearable for everyday activities.
