Thisworks Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum review

All-focus

I got this little guy in my Lookfantastic beauty box and I decided to do a review on it because even though it was a sample size (10 ml), the product lasted me for 10 days since you only have to apply it in the morning and I think it’s enough to form an opinion on it.

Thisworks is an UK-based skin care brand that has cruelty free and vegan products (the majority of them) and that use plenty of natural ingredients. The company was founded by beauty expert Kathy Phillips together with Anna Persaud, who has a PHD in biochemistry and Swedish professor Gaby Badre.

Packaging:

The serum comes in a plastic tube just like my sample size, the only difference being that the full size contains 30 ml and my sample size had 10 ml. So, a full tube is enough to get you through one month of daily use, considering that you use up about 1 ml, which trust me is more than enough. Like most higher end brands, the design of the packaging is very simple, white and orange, so nothing too fancy.

Texture:

The serum is just like a clear liquid that you pore in your palm and then you apply it on the face. It has a very vague scent, that I wasn’t a fan of, but it goes away really fast. Being such a liquid formula you do have to be careful when you pour it because it happened to me just this morning when I finished the tube to pour too much, probably the equivalent of two uses instead of just one. Since I couldn’t pour it back in, I worked the entire product on the face, neck and decolletage. So, I think another type of packaging, like a bottle with a pump would be better for a product with this type of consistency.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Sodium Hyaluronate, Albizia Julibrissin (Persian Silk Tree) Bark Extract, Heptyl Glucoside, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Levulinate, Benzyl Alcohol, Marrubium Vulgare (Horehound) Extract, Sodium Anisate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Phytic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Dehydroacetic Acid, Linalool*, Heptanol, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Limonene*. *Allergens naturally occurring in essential oils.

The serum contains 2% hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, to hydrate and brighten tired-looking skin. It also has some natural oils in it like peppermint oil and rosemary oil.

Price and accesibility:

I didn’t see Thisworks products in Romanian shops, so for me, it’s not that accessible, unless I would order them from their website or from other online shops from abroad, in which case the shipping fees are almost always a hassle. A full size of this product costs 36 euros, which is a little bit too expensive for me. I would pay this much only if this were a truly game changer when it comes to my skin care routine.

My overall opinion:

I used this serum in the mornings and after that I would apply my usual moisturizers, which currently is the Avant moisturizer that also contains hyaluronic acid. So I don’t know if it’s the fact that both products have the same effects on the skin and they worked well together or what, but the skin does look plump, hydrated and radiant.

Even after applying just the serum on the skin, I could notice a difference in regards of brightening up the skin. It does feel sticky so you have to apply a moisturizer over it no matter what, otherwise there’s no way that it would feel nice or that you could apply some makeup.

I think it’s a good product, especially for people with dry skin because I do look a little shiny after using hyaluronic acid products (I have combination to oily skin), but like I said, I wouldn’t be ready to commit to the price tag, especially since it’s a little difficult to purchase for me.

I’m glad that I got to try it out, I love testing all kinds of skin care products because I like to take good care of my skin, but I wouldn’t say this is an absolutely must have product or that it’s something amazing.
