Eyeko Lash Alert Mascara review

All-focus

I remember the good old days when Eyeko products started to pop up on YouTube in makeup tutorials from smaller beauty gurus and I thought this is a brand that sounds interesting but I could never get my hands on it. Eyeko is focused on makeup products for the eyes, especially mascaras. It was founded in 1999 and it’s a cruelty free brand.

I took my travel-sized mascara that I received in this month’s Lookfantastic beauty box with me on vacation and after a few days of using it, I think I made up my mind about it.

Packaging:

Eyeko mascaras come in a tube similar to those squeezy tubes. They say they do it this way because it’s easier to get out all of the product instead of having to throw some away just because the wand can’t reach it anymore. Even my mini size comes in the same type of packaging. This mascara comes in a blue tube.

I also like the wand because it’s a little curved, so I can easily coat my lashes in the inner and outer corners of my eyes and I can get to the shorter hairs that grow there.

Texture:

The formula is not that thick and it coats the lashes nicely, without making them look like spider legs. It also feels so natural that I forget I have mascara on, which is a good thing because I have a slight sensitivity to some mascaras and my eyes start to itch after a couple of hours of wearing it.

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Acrylates/ Ethylhexyl Acrylate Copolymer, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Microcrystalline Wax, Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Carnauba) Wax, Stearic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Polyvinyl Alcohol,Triethanolamine, Isobutylene/Sodium Maleate Copolymer, Silica, Phenoxyethanol,Phenyl Trimethicone,Simethicone, Nylon-6, Dipropylene Glycol,PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil,Chlorphenesin, Dimethicone, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Laureth-21,Alcohol, Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Allium Sativum (Garlic) Bulb Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Perilla Frutescens Leaf Extract, Perilla Ocymoides Seed Extract, Polygonum Multiflorum Root Extract, Arginine, Caffeine, Sodium Dehydroacetate,Angelica Gigas Root Extract, Apigenin, Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract,Atractyloides Japonica Rhizome Extract, Biotin, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, Butylene Glycol, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract, Cnidium Of cinale Root Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Oleanolic Acid, Paeonia Albiflora Root Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Poria Cocos Extract, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Rehmannia Chinensis Root Extract, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), D&C Black No. 2 (CI 77266).

This  is a botanical formula that contains caffeine (it’s supposed to make your eyes pop), Biotin, fibres, shea butter and arginine.

Price and accessibility:

Asides from online shops, Eyeko products are available in a few stores as well, including at Sephora, so it’s really not difficult to get my hands on it. A full size mascara (8 ml) is sold for 26 US dollars, which is a bit much considering I can buy very good drugstore mascaras for a lot cheaper. At least Eyeko is often on sale so you can get some kind of deal if you want to. Also the travel size contains 4 ml and it can last for at least 6 weeks (in my case), so it wouldn’t be that much to pay for, considering I use mascara every day.

My overall opinion:

I like very much the effect this mascara has on my lashes. It makes them longer, fuller and I can’t feel it’s there. Also, it’s very easy to remove with some makeup remover, but it stays put all day without smudging. I have to say, this is a mascara that I’m considering to buy on my own because mascara is the one makeup product I use every day no matter what (it’s what makes me feel “put together” and I like to emphasize my eyes), so it would be an investment worth making.

It also contains fibres, but it’s not like other mascaras of this type that fall apart after a while and you get those little pesky black dots under your eyes. It’s also very easy to remove, which can be a problem for some mascaras that contain fibres.

I wouldn’t venture to say it’s the best mascara I have ever tries, but it’s up there in the top best, so I’m very glad I got to try it and I even got compliments on my lashes when I wore it so I’d say if you want to try a good mascara and you don’t mind paying more (I mean, I think it’s similar to some high end mascaras), Lash Alert from Eyeko is something you should consider. Or, you can always get the mini size and see how it works for you.
