Grow Gorgeous Balance Shine-enhancing Overnight Mask review

This hair mask was one of the most interesting I have used so far because it’s applied on dry hair, so I was curious to see if it did anything for my hair. I remember that I used another product from this brand in the past and I can’t say that I was impressed, but I also didn’t dislike it.

Most of their products are designed to be used both on the hair and on the scalp and this mask makes no exception.

Packaging:

The full size product (200 ml) comes in a jar, but I only had a mini size that came in a tube and it contained 30 ml. Their packaging is colorful, each color being designed for a certain line. For example, this mask is part of their Balance line and it has orange packaging.

Texture:

The mask looks just like a white hair cream and it’s scented, but it doesn’t smell like anything in particular, it has just a certain fragrance to it.

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Behentrimonium Chloride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Phenoxyethanol, Glycol Distearate, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed)/Aleurites Fordi (Tung Wood) Oil Copolymer, Lactic Acid, Panthenol, Glycerin, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Oil, Oenocarpus Bataua (Pataua) Fruit Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Laureth-4, Sodium PCA, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lactate, Chlorphenesin, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Arginine, Benzoic Acid, Ceteareth-12, Cetyl Palmitate, Aspartic Acid, PCA, Citric Acid, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Glucose, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Rhizobian Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Linalool, Malic Acid, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Tocopherol, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Potassium Sorbate.

The first ingredients on the list are water, hydroxyethylcellulose (a gelling and thickening agent derived from cellulose), behentrimonium chloride (a waxy solid derived from rapeseed that works as a de-frizzer and conditioning agent), sweet almond oil and cetearyl isononanoate (an emollient that softens and smoothens hair. The problem with behentrimonium chloride is that it can be toxic in high concentrations, so seeing it so far up on the ingredients list is not exactly great. There are also other oils in here like oat kernel oil, rapeseed oil, tung wood oil, acai fruit oil, pataua fruit oil as well as green tea leaf extract.

Price and accessibility:

Grow Gorgeous products are available in Douglas stores here in Romania as well in some online shops, so it’s not hard to get. As for the price, it’s somewhere mid-range. It’s not a drugstore-priced brand, but it’s also not a high end brand, considering that I seen much more expensive hair products. For example, this mask retails for 30 euros, but considering that you don’t use it each time you was your hair, it can last for quite some time.

My overall opinion:

I didn’t leave the mask over night because I can’t sleep if I have a towel or something else on my head, but I did leave it on for a couple of hours. I don’t like the way it’s supposed to be applied, because when you have to apply it on dry hair, of course you will need more product. I got two uses out of my mini size, while with other masks I could easily use the same amount for 3 applications.

I’m also not a fan of the ingredients list. I’m not all about the natural, organic ingredients list because I know that not everything that is natural is automatically good, but I don’t like seeing ingredients that are deemed as potentially toxic by some specialists.

I also didn’t noticed my hair to look particularly shiny or smooth after using it. My hair already looks shiny because it’s colored, but I know that it has the potential to look even better with the right products. So, to make it short, this mask didn’t convinced me that I need to add it to my hair care routine and I don’t feel like recommending it just because the ingredients list is not that great.
