Polaar Ice Source Moisturizing Cream review

As disappointed as I was with their micellar water, I still gave this face cream a try because I remembered that I had a sun protection cream from Polaar last summer that I did enjoy using. This one was just a travel size (20 ml) that I received in my last beauty box, so I was intrigued although I don’t buy into the whole “it’s special because it contains iceberg water” marketing device.

Packaging:

Polaar products definitely have a very cute packaging with all the pastel colors and the fonts that they use for the writing. The full size cream (50 ml) comes in a jar, but the travel size came in a plastic tube.

Texture:

The cream has a rich texture and it also has a bit of a scent, but nothing that would bother me. It doesn’t absorb as fast into the skin as I would like and it does make me look a little bit oily if I use too much.

Ingredients:

aqua (water), octyldodecyl myristate, C15-19 alkane, glycerin, squalane, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl alcohol, pentylene glycol, PEG-75 stearate, ceteth-20, steareth-20, ethylhexylglycerin, butylene glycol, sorbitol, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, lecithin, parfum (fragrance), sodium hyaluronate, tocopheryl acetate, o-cymen-5-ol, sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, caprylyl glycol, plankton extract, sodium hydroxide, xanthan gum, polyglyceryl-6 laurate, limonene, benzyl salicylate, linalool, tetrasodium glutamate diacetate, polyglycerin-6, sodium benzoate, sorbitan oleate, sorbitan isostearate, potassium sorbate, citronellol, citric acid.

The key ingredients listed on the brand’s website are iceberg water, hyaluronic acid and Thalassiossira Antarctica, a type of seaweed from the polar fjords. That exact seaweed extract and the sorbitan oleate may be pore-clogging ingredients in some cases.

The first ingredients listed are water, octyldodecyl myristate ( a mixture of octyldodecanol (texture enhancer) and myristic acid that forms a new compound that is used as a skin-softening agent and emollient), C15-19 alkane (a synthetic blend of alkanes that functions as a solvent), glycerin and squalane.

The ingredients list looks ok and Polaar products are cruelty free.

Price and accessibility:

Polaar products can be found here mainly at Sephora and in some online shops, but they’re not exactly affordable. This moisturizer retails for 29.95 euros on the brand’s website, so I can’t say that it’s that exactly right up my alley, but it’s also not crazy expensive.

My overall opionion:

This was just an ok moisturizer for me, just because I think it’s more suitable for dry skin. It does have a rich texture and I would definitely couldn’t get away with using this during summer. I used this because I had it, but it doesn’t make me want to go out and buy more Polaar products. from what I’ve seen so far about their products, they’re targeted mostly towards dry skin, so probably that’s why this moisturizer was not one of my favorites.
