Illamasqua Beyond Liquid Highlighter review

When I did my July Lookfantastic beauty box unboxing, I found this little guy in here, which is a mini size of the Illamasqua liquid highlighter in the shade OMG. I also have the powder version of the exact shade and I think a comparison between the two could be interesting. The powder version is one of my favorite highlighters as I think it’s an universally flattering shade, but let’s see how the liquid version looks.

Packaging:

Both the full size (15 ml) and the mini size that I have (2 ml) comes in black plastic tube, the signature packaging for Illamasqua products. Being a liquid product it’s probably the best option regarding the packaging.

Ingredients:

Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Mica, Hydrogenated Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract [+/- May Contain/Peut Contenir: Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)]

I like the fact that there are some skin care ingredients in here like the jojoba seed oil, the soybean oil and the aloe vera leaf extract.

Price and accessibility:

Illamasqua products are available in Douglas stores and in some online shops, so it’s relatively easy accessible in Romania. The liquid highlighter is sold for 29 euros on the brand’s official website, which is not exactly high end, but it’s still pricier than your normal drugstore brand.

Powder vs. liquid comparison:

Considering that I have the OMG shade available in both formulas, I thought it would be interesting to see if there are any differences.

Although it would appear as they both have the same golden color, it’s not the same. The powder has a golden finish, while the liquid highlighter has a more liquid silver. As you can see from the swatches below, the one one the bottom is the powder, the one in the middle is the liquid, while the one on the top is a mix between the two, the liquid applied over the powder which gives a nice rose golden shade.

My overall opinion:

I like the liquid as much as I like the powder. It has a subtle sheen to it, as it doesn’t contain big glittery particles. It’s perfect for everyday wear and if you want some extra glow, you can just simply add another layer. As I don’t like blinding highlighters because I think they’re more suitable for going out or just for photo shoots, a nice, subtle highlighter is suitable for everyday wear, even if you work at an office, like I do.
