I got this lip gloss way back in February in my Douglas Box of Beauty (by the way, why don’t they bring this back?) and now it’s about time to write a few things about it. I only have the travel size, but the product is the same, so it’ doesn’t matter.

If you don’t know, Kevyn Aucoin is a cosmetics brand that was initially founded by a makeup artists with the same name. He was a great makeup artists, well loved in Hollywood and by celebrities in general because he would use makeup to enhance natural beauty and also to create beautiful editorial looks by changing a person’s facial structure through makeup. He has written a couple of books in which he describes some of the looks he created, I highly recommend them. Unfortunately, Kevyn Aucoin is no longer with us, but his brand still exists.

Kevyn Aucoin is a cruelty free brand, but the products are definitely in the high end price range, so that’s why this lip gloss is the only product I got to try from them.

Packaging:

Both the full size (8 ml) and the travel size come in a plastic tube, but it’s not a squeezy tube as there is an applicator included, so that’s good. The tubes are clear, so you can see the color of the lip gloss.

Texture:

They claim on their website that this is a non-sticky lip gloss formula, but that’s not true. It’s thick and sticky like most lip glosses, but at least it does feel very comfortable on the lips and it also makes the lips look juicy and moisturized.

To be honest, I really don’t understand much from the formulas of the makeup products because there aren’t usually ingredients in there that are very good for the skin or anything so….that’s that.

Swatch:

There are only three shades available in this lip gloss and I have the Crystal Clear shade, which is a clear lip gloss with some very interesting sparkles that change colors in different lighting, from purple to blue. I like how it looks on the lips, it looks….special.

Price and accessibilty:

Kevyn Acoin products are available in Douglas stores and in a couple of online stores. The price for the lip gloss is listed as 26 US dollars on the official website, which is what you would expect from the middle type high end priced brand. Personally, I wouldn’t pay that much for any lip product unless it’s an amazing lip gloss or lipstick that lasts for hours, even when you eat or drink and that it’s transfer proof. Otherwise, any lip product doesn’t last much on my lips because I tend to rub them together all the time and it’s just not worth it. That’s why I’m happy with my usual drugstore products.

My overall opinion:

The lip gloss does feel very comfortable and nice on the lips, it looks good and the shimmer particles are very fine so that you don’t feel them on the lips, but like I said, for me, it’s not worth it paying a higher price tag for something that you can easily find at drugstore as well.
