Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille EDP review

I got this beautiful perfume from one of my good friends and it was a total surprise because she said it’s an extra early birthday present since she got it for me and she couldn’t wait for three more months. Thank you, my dear, you made me very happy and perfumes are always the best gifts one could give me since I love them so much.

Tobacco Vanille is an unisex perfume, but I once smelled a sample and I fell in love with the spicy vanilla mix and I knew I just have to have it someday.

The perfume is a classic in the Tom Ford collection. It was launched in 2007, so it’s near the 20th anniversary mark and it was created by Olivier Gillotin.

Packaging:

The bottle is very simple and sleek, just a brown glass bottle with a golden label and a golden lid. However, the bottle is heavy and it feels like an expensive perfume. I don’t know how to explain it but it does. I have the big 100 ml bottle.

Top notes: tobacco leaves and spicy notes

Middle notes: vanilla, cocoa, tonka bean and tobacco blossom

Base notes: dried fruits and woody notes

Price and accessibility:

Tom Ford perfumes are available at Sephora, at Douglas stores and in various online shops. It’s crazy expensive. The large bottle is sold for around 270 euros. That’s insane (for my budget), so I’ll definitely won’t be repurchasing this perfume with my own money.

My overall opinion:

I can see why it’s considered an unisex perfume, because the vanilla is not as sweet as you would expect because of the spicy notes and the smokey accents from the tobacco leaves. I don’t feel that it’s to sweet for a man or too heavy for a woman. It really is an unisex scent. At first, it feels a bit overwhelming, but after a couple of minutes it settles on the skin and it becomes more sensual and sexy. It’s my favorite vanilla perfume that I have tried so far.

One thing that I have to say on a negative note, asides from the very high price tag, is that it’s not as long-lasting as I would have expected, at least not on my skin. Usually, when I tried different luxury perfumes the longevity was really there, but with this one, I’d say about 6 hours. I mean, I don’t smell it on me when I get home from work and I’m not one to go light-handed with my perfumes. I like to smell nice, what can I say?

In conclusion, if you like vanilla perfumes, I would say that Tobacco Vanille is definitely a must have for your collection, but you have to be prepared to spend more than 200 euros on it and also, you have to consider it worth it. For me, since I do love perfumes so much and they can influence my mindset and the way that I feel and how I perceive things around me, I don’t mind the high price, I just know that I can’t afford it (or at least I would have to save some money for half a year to purchase such an expensive perfume). But, the price aside, I do love it and I’m so glad that I am able to have it and to enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

  1. It used to be EXTREMELY long lasting. But I recently bought a bottle because I was running low on my old one (which I’ve had for over a decade) and the difference is astounding. The smell is exactly the same (so at least there’s that), but the performance has severely sufferend. Tobacco Vanille used to be the kind of scent that you weren’t able to remove from your skin and your clothes. I sprayed the new version at 9 a.m. and at 3 p.m. I could barely smell anything and I had to press my nose onto my arms to get a faint whiff of it. I bought it quite cheap second hand and still adore the smell, so I’m not too too mad, but I’ll definitely won’t be buying a bottle at retail prices ever again.

    • You know, you are right, there’s something off with this perfume. After a few months, the smell was not as strong. It’s something that usually doesn’t happen with perfumes. It’s not like I had an open bottle that I has used for years, it was just about 3-4 months and the smell was definitely not like in the beginning. Plus, I kept the bottle out of sunlight, so I really don’t know what the issue was.
