MONUspa Rose & Lemon Enriched Body Cream review

All-focus

I received this body cream in my July’s Lookfantastic box and it was a really generous sample size. I had a 100 ml jar, and the full size is 180 ml, so I got more than half of a jar to try out the product. I rarely review body creams, but since this one is on the more expensive side, I decided to give you my opinion on it since I finally finished it up.

MONUspa is an UK-based brand that makes skin care and bath and body care using mostly natural ingredients. They are also vegan and cruelty free, which is a huge plus in my book, and they also source locally many of their ingredients. As the name says it, they want to recreate that spa-like experience at home, by providing luxurious feeling products.

Packaging:

The body cream comes in a glass jar, I think, but my sample was in a plastic jar. I don’t complain, because it’s all about the product, not the packaging. Since it’s a thick cream, a jar is more suitable than a bottle.

Texture:

The cream is white and it has a thick, rich texture, without feeling oily on the skin. It also feels very soft to the touch, like whipped cream. The scent is very pleasant, I was actually complemented a couple of time on my scent after applying this body cream as I was told “what smells so good on you?”

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Cetyl Esters, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Limonene, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Retinyl Palmitate, Methylparaben, Linalool, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Disodium EDTA, Fucus Vesiculosis (Bladderwrack) Thallus Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract Citronellol, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Sorbitol, Propylparaben, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol, Geraniol, BHA, Citral, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Soluble Collagen, Benzyl Benzoate.

The key ingredients in this body cream are lemon (for its brightening effect), collagen (marine collagen, a byproduct of the fishing industry), orange essential oil (for it refreshing effect), vitamin A (anti-aging) and vitamin E (antioxidant action).

Price and accessibility:

A jar of this body cream costs 29.95 UK pounds, which is definitely more that I am willing to spend on a body cream, unless it really does something amazing to my skin. Also, MONUspa products are not available in Romania, so I would have to order from abroad, pay for shipping and customs and honestly, it’t not worth the hassle.

My overall opinion:

At first I was like, oh this is just another body cream. But the rich texture, the way it makes my skin feel so soft and it absorbs fast into the skin and the delicious combination of rose and lemon for that floral-citrus scent made my really like it. Do I think it’s worth 30 UK pounds? It depends. It feels luxurious and I like the fact that it’s vegan, cruelty free and made with tons of natural ingredients, but it’s something out of my price range. However, I will say that: if I had the money to splurge on luxury products (no matter what type they are, I would).

Considering skin care and body care products are used up fast, it’s not like a perfume or a makeup item, I would certainly not hurry to purchase the MONUspa body cream. But, if you are the type of person who loves to pamper themselves with high quality body creams, this one is one that should be on your radar.
